Hey!

My Mesmer hit level 80 two days ago and I am just blown away by the things to do first at 80. To be honest: I don’t know what to do.

I don’t know what to do, what to play, how to play, where to go, what to gather and so on – my first character at level 80 although I played from beta on with some bigger breaks…

In addition my Elementalist hit level 80 yesterday, too. Thanks to tailoring…

The thing is, I want to play a Mesmer. Love the playstyle and I love my clones. And that is why I am opening this thread – because I am asking for your advice.

So can you help me?

Would be grateful if I get some answers to my questions…
… what should I do first? And after that? What then? …

What would you suggest me to do first, what are important things at 80 to do?

Mainly I am playing PvE but I got some serious interest in PvP / WvW too. And I want to farm materials for my two professions.

Some questions that come to my mind:

• Which build is good for (AoE) farming?
• Which weapons should I choose?
• Which equip?
• Where should I farm and what especially?
• What should I “learn” as a new Mesmer on level 80?
• Legendary weapons? Precursors? Ascended gear? Whaaaaaaat?

I’m a WvW mesmer, and it’s a very challenging class in that environment.

I run a hybrid clone-death, interrupt effect lockdown build (with fury on phantasms for DPS) (Soldiers gear + Perplexity runes) 0/30/30/0/10

For armor: WvW would love you to have soldiers gear. If you want to focus more on condition damage, then go for Rabid (toughness, condition damage, precision)

for weapons, I recommend having sword + whatever and Staff for WvW, (staff DPS is underwhelming, but survivability is the goal with this weapon)

You will ALWAYS be changing utilities (veil/portal, feedback/Null Field)
offhand weapons too. (focus/torch/sword/pistol)

offhand focus – pull that kitten off the wall, or back towards you cause that fool is running away.

offhand torch – great for roaming and fighting against multiple opponents

offhand sword – ima hurt you with this sucker.

offhand pistol – Great single target DPS, and instant daze/stun/blind (i use this as my on toggle interrupt)

important things for a level 80 mesmer? learn your dungeons. practice chain veiling.

For AOE farming… you’re a mesmer. most of your skills are targeted, but GS is probably the best weapon for this.

Just play the game really. I prefer WvW and PvP, but I also enjoy doing dungeons from time to time, and I do the living world content as it’s released. There’s no real gear grind (just ignore ascended armor/weapons, you’ll be happier for it), so you sorta just do what you like.

The elementalist staff build. Seriously though, mesmere just is abysmal at that. You can sorta get it done with some good greatsword phantasm/shatter work…or you could hop over to your ele and press fire 2 and 5 a bunch of times.

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend farming anything. All of the gear you need can be acquired from dungeon running the appropriate dungeon for the gear. You’ll get the gear from tokens and you’ll get enough money to buy a few pieces as well.

Not 100% sure what you mean by this one.

Legendary weapons? Precursors? Ascended gear? Whaaaaaaat?

Try and get all ascended trinkets. They offer the largest boosts to your stats and are the easiest to get. If you really really want to get more ascended gear, go for ascended weapons, but I’d recommend you stay far away from ascended armor. Legendary weapons…get them as you feel like it.

For any kind of farming take ELE. Mesmer in my opinion is the worst farmer in the game. Guardian with staff probably best large scale events farmer considering high survival then ranger ele necro engy all with huge aoe skills. Last 3 is war. mesmer thief.
Weapons. You need to have all mesmers weapons on you always. Which you choose to use as a regular set is up to you. All zerk in PVE.

You should know that there’s no actually efficient way to farm T6 mats. Farming stuff in this game is usually just a bad idea. If you’re farming, it can probably be accomplished in another way.
