New bug with greatsword?
Read up on May 28th patch thread in Mesmer forum. We have a solid covering on clones being bounce-able targets lol.
GS sucks, Staff sucks for damage, Scepter sucks in general.
If only the Phantasms had some more sustain in PvE, i could see Staff being a somewhat decent alternative to DPS’ing.
What else will i use now as a ranged weapon? I almost exclusively only do FotM 48/38 on my Mesmer nowadays. I may just put on another MH sword+pistol, or something.

The staff can do excellent damage! You just have to build for it. Rampager gear helps a lot. I’m also hoping that this bouncing mess gets retracted quickly or places priority on players because it is literally chaotic. I’ll even second another poster’s idea that mesmers should receive the buff if it hits their clones.
Staff does really good damage, especially in PvE where it’s easy to plan around it’s AE and bouncing to maximize buff potential on the party.
Greatsword to me has always been a weapon I use for two reasons: a) Cripple, b) Knocking people off ledges. It excels for that, but the Staff wins out for total damage (since it also provides buffs on friendly players).

And since Warlock is the strongest Phantasm based on full potential numbers.

Pre bugs, GS actually outputs way more damage then Staff IMO. All of GS’s abilities do damage, only 3 of Staff’s do any reliable damage on their own. Warlock is great, but WoC doesn’t do a lot of damage unless you have a lot of condition damage. Whereas GS1, Mirror Blade, and Mind Stab all do fairly good damage, and back when berserker could do more then Warlock with the right amount of hits. GS5 does little damage, but it’s great for knockback/kiting.
Just my experience using both.
Spam them with bug-reports. Complaining in the forums didnt help much in the past
Loving all these Bugs we get EVERY SINGLE PATCH… Dat playtesting…
Same song and dance every. single. patch. They fiddle with something and break five other things…without even fixing what was broken (or wasn’t broken for that matter).
Please fix GS#2!
This is an even bigger nerf to staff than it is to Greatsword. Staff mesmers rely on the bouncing boons.
Oh. Right. Thanks!

Guys, quick, is NCsoft/Anet looking at this?

Hahahahahaa.
That’d be funny.
Who ever rights their code is terribad at it. Every patch it’s the same old story.
Agreed, I’m baffled as to why A-net continues to alienate it’s customers by not fixing what should be simple re-writes precluded by actual testing in various scenarios. This should be the “fine-tuning” phase of the game, but has turned into a shell game of “fixing” this and kittening-up that. Come-on Anet…..focus on these pre-existing conditions and stop trying to squeeze more funds out of us via the gem store. Nobody cares about your mini’s.
Neenu Waffler-Warrior for what once was the Toast-
Clones can eat bouncable attacks now…. Why? Please tell me its a bug and theyre fixing it soon…
2 days ago i actually made a new build that uses the staff as main weapon… And it was much less effective than t could be, thr might doesnt even improve clone condition damage.
Nobody cares about your mini’s.
But theyre so cute i bought all of them!

Seriously ANET… Why do other classes bugs that get introduced into patches get fixed within a day or two… but any bug that makes us better such kittentered strength/prestige double blast gets hotfixed… while bugs that severely hamper our effectiveness are swept under the rug by you guys? That is not good business practice.
