New mesmer needing help with pve build
Hey Thor, greetings
First of all: What weapons do you like? What’s your playstyle?
In general you require much reflection in fotm. A phantasm build is perfect. So you need to go at least X/20/X/20/X. Pretty much the must have.
If you use the pistol you should go for 10/30/0/30/0. If you don’t (as I do to be honest) then you mainly go sword/focus +sword/sword. Means 20/20/0/30/0 is better imo.
I don’t like the illusion trait line since it gives you no useful stats, just the 3-9% damage for you (not phantasms). 100 power more grants you and your phantasms approximately 4% damage. I’m also a huge fan of dom. 15. But thats playstyle again 10/20/0/20/10 is good too i think. However pistol user should go for 30 in duelling.
But you should find your own traits that fit you personally the best.
Sigils: Battle and Bloodlust. Fire is pretty bad for mesmer, since phantasm won’t proc it unlike might from battle sigils.
best utility skills:
- feedback
- nullfield
- mantras (stability, condition remover, pain for heal, interrupt if you need it (rarely)(procs dom. 15))
- signet of inspiration (boon share)
- mimic
- portal
- blink

Thanks for your response, I’m mainly looking for the sword/sword and sword/focus build, with greatsword for certain bosses. I had already guessed on the most of those utilities but just wanted to insure that I hadn’t missed any.
For healing is the mantra better or the staple heal based on amount of current illusions the best?
Also, how does sigil of battle end up working well with phantasms, didn’t think I’d be swapping very often?
Thanks for the help
I would recommend 10/30/0/20/10 for sw/sw + sw/f. Take empowering mantras for your grandmaster, you should always have atleast 1 mantra (the heal usually). Gives you pretty decent personal dps, some nice phantasm dps and good reflect damage. You want perception sigil for reflect damage.
Should i take that aoe healing mantra trait, forgot which one it is specifically, but it’s in inspiration.
Here is the build: http://tinyurl.com/mesmer-dps-build
And for the sigil, you’d need one set with stacking sigil (that means 2 stacks per kill) if there’s plenty of trash mobs to stack perception, or sigil of accuracy on MH sword and for your off hand weapon you’d need sigil of the night for night dungeons or sigil or force.

You should take glamour mastery and warden’s feedback.
Edit: The build Jerem linked is what you want.
Wow that build is almost exactly what I picked out from looking at the traits and utilities, only difference was that I took 20% more phantasm health rather than glamour cooldowns.
Thanks everyone you’ve been really helpful
Yeah you had a good trait distribution Also for dueling you should change phantasmal fury to deceptive evasion according to the situation (to keep clones up and keep the compounding power bonus).

That’s for stuff like lupi who kill your illusions fast right?
For example yes, can also be useful for the last boss of the grawl fractal. That gives more target to the arrow it shoot and can save some lives

If you don’t need any glamour you can simply switch it with healing mantras aswell. Or more Hp for phantasms or cleanse on heal (great with mantras). Best skills are in Inspiration trait.

So … you spend 10 points for 1-2 mantras meaning +4% – +8% damage for you? 100 power results into +4% damage for you and all your phantasms ya know. Howver since the duelling gives you good stats aswell i would leave the crappy illusion stuffa way and go at least for 15/30/0/25/0.
- -3% – -9% damage for you
- +17.25% damage for your phantasms
- sword offhand and F3 (aswell other weapons) deal awesome teambonusdamage
Vulnerability is a % stat for your whole team. It lasts 9 sec procced with 15 in dom. Even if you got a weak party with a DpS of 25’000, the passive damage per daze would be sexy 11250. If the enemy lives so long – and yea elites aswell bosses will.

I dont need the vuln and compounding power is really good for reflects. Mainly lupi.
So is vulnerability. It’s not for the “I” it’s for the “us” …

Well yeah “I” dont need it for “us”. Vuln isnt usually an issue in my groups and that trait isnt exactly the best trait for vuln. You cant daze that often. Its good for aoe shatter on trash, so its kind of worth it in fractals. But regular dungeons its a bit of a waste when you can contribute more by doing more reflect damage.
F3 isn’t aoe :P It’s single target. However it depends on what you’ve got up. We got Sword line daze with short cd, better use it before you switch weapons again. Then there is the mantra and F3, aswell the chaosstorm. 5% – 8% more damage for up to 10 sec is a huge damage buff for the team. I’ve been watching the vulnerability stacks for a long time now and they are usually at 15 during combat. We got enough space to increase the damage quite well. But as I allways say – there is no “best build” there is just a “personal best build”. Try to aim for that and you will succeed.

Well as i said its not wrong to take it. But there are reasons why I and others dont. You cant skip lupi phase 3 with 15/30/0/25/0 but you can with 10/30/0/20/10. And with the unreliable phantasm dps id rather have better personal dps even if it sacrifices a bit of vuln.
