Guild Wars 2

So im looking for a good build for my GS mesmer for PVE. Not really sure what to trait for or if GS is even the best route for PVE but that and staff are the most fun so far.

I havent tried one handed swords yet and didnt much like pistol.

Best traits and skills for GS would be helpful

Open world PvE or dungeons?

well open world right now since i’m only level 20 but dungeons definitely in the future. I also play a fair bit solo so not a lot of help doing things

Well, it sounds like you’re low level if you haven’t tried 1handed swords yet. Your best open world leveling set will probably be greatsword + sword/focus for good aoe and ranged damage. Once you get to dungeons things will change slightly, but you don’t need to worry about that yet.

Don’t bother with Focus for open-world, use GS and Sw/Sw. Sw/Sw is advantageous because it lets you take Blade Training for faster CDs on both your main and offhand. iSwordsman is also preferable to iWarden since it unloads quickly, so you can summon it and shatter right away.

No focus? But but… mesmers so slow

Slot it in, curtain, swap out.

Or equip runes of the Mes… I mean, Traveller.
If you’re lazy.

so GS and sw/sw What about my traits

I can’t be bothered to press my mouse a few times so I’m going to get a set of runes that cost over 40g.

Funny how people complain about scholar runes being too expensive but don’t mind wasting money on runes of laziness.

I am not people. I never complained about scholar runes.

Nah, just didn’t know that they’re at 40G+.

I would advise on a great-sword,sword,focus(traited) type build. Focus to counter most ranged mobs and sword to combo with.
I could talk for weeks on end about cool combinations with sword focus but I’m not going to.

Anyway I would advise on a 20-20-0-20 set up at least. For the great-sword trait,focus trait,sword trait,and deceptive evasion trait(amazing)

Also are you 80 right now? If not I would start training domination, then move in to dueling, and then in to inspiration.

Also do you want to be phantasm or shatter?
Phantasm is good in sustained dps when fighting a boss that does not do a lot of aoe. But other than that shatter is far better for the burst damage, and non single target aoe(can use focus pull to clump groups of mobs together, then combo with sword leap/swap to keep them there. Then blurred frenzy leading in to a mind wrack=they all dead) .
If you want phantasm get the illusions do 15 more damage trait. If shatter get the mind wrack does 20% more damage trait.

Can also put 5 of the extra 10 trait points in say inspiration for the other illusions inflict 15% extra damage trait. Other than that it’s up to you

I personally prefer sword/focus over sword/sword for open world pve because you’ll often be killing groups of mobs, and the iWarden along with the curtain allows you to do that efficiently.

no im only level 23 right now but i like my GS so i want to focus on that, I dont have a preference for my second slots really just something that goes best with GS…all my trait points are into the topline right now what other line should i be feeding? if you could link me a the build would be nice too

Hey, if you want you can look at my leveling build. It uses GS and Sword/Focus.

Forget about the traveler runes, that is all 80 talk, and believe me, you want a speedboost for open world.
