Ninja Trident Changes
Yeah now I can get an instant 20 bleeds lol, just as OP imo, maybe even moreso.
Yeah, that was in the last patch a few weeks ago. Hashed and rehashed. But glad you noticed it.
Not really sure why shooting musical notes at someone would make them bleed. Confusion made more sense :P
I cannot be certain due to the rarity of underwater PvP, but the new Trident actually feels stronger to me than the old one. It’s not difficult to maintain 25 stacks of Bleeding on the target.
There is however still a bug with Trident Clones: the friendly bounce of their Siren’s Call is still the old version, the one that healed allies instead of provide boons. Before you get too excited the healing is negligible due to the Clone damage nerf waaaay back, so it’s useless.
EDIT: And yeah, Confusion made more sense thematically. Unfortunately Anet decided halfway through Beta that Confusion should only be applicable in bursts, which resulted in the Sceptre and the Trident being mutilated practically and thematically.
You could justify it by saying the song is making your opponent’s ears bleed, but… meh.

Old confusion stack is OP..
New Bleed stack is mooaaar OP.
Mesmer get’s my Underwater Combat Daily done in no time.
I love it
But yea, confusion is more suited to the Trident and Scepters waaay better thematically speaking. If what they did was an attempt at balancing, I’m baffled. Can’t they just revert it back to confusion and just reduce the attack speed of Trident a wee bit? Also scepters. Maybe adjusting the attack speed of these weapons so that it doesn’t stack a bajillion stack of confusion with infinite duration when 3 clones are up and attacking one target so that Confusion stacking wouldn’t be so OP. This would have been a better solution I think rather than completely removing Confusion on scepters and changing confusion on Tridents and making it Bleeds. Like, say, 33% slower than Staff auto and causing 1 stack of 1 or 2 second Confusion. I’m sure they can do better.

More reason to actually use trident in pve as swap weapon. Also they ninjafixed trident’s illusionary anchor that was previously causing target to reflect any projectile.

You mean we have the ability to weapon swap underwater? I never knew. I always used Trident. XP

Yes, we have. Spear is still way better then trident in terms of damage, especially if you socket sigil of rage in it and use power\precision\crit damage gear.
Recent changes improved quality of life in trident a bit, so I found myself using it more.
Guess I was so used to the Trident on ele since it’s the only underwater weapon for that class XD
Anyway, let’s just hope for the best on the 26th. More bug fixes and more improvements not only on tridents of mesmer but on all skills of all classes.

meh, was able to get 25 bleeds
just so sad I don’t run condition, maybe I shall get a condition gear as well…
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…

Oh I can get 25 stacks easily, but I said I can get 20 “instantly” not quite instant but pretty kitten close.. 1 auto attack – mirror images – dodge = hello 20 bleeds. Using sigil to add bleed on crit, also a decent crit chance for my clones and it’s trait.

The notes also carry your singing. They bleed from the ears.

Wait, what? Please show me how to do that with a scepter. As far as I know, scepter can only inflict 5 stacks of confusion every 18 seconds (15 seconds cooldown + 3 seconds casttime); provided that the target doesn’t get the idea to just dodge or interrupt your cast. I mean, you are probably refering to the trident like it was before the patch (I guess), but then you say “also scepters” and continue talking in plural. So again… how would you possibly do that with a scepter? If it would be possible, I’d actually use one, cause then it wouldn’t be completely useless anymore. ^^

Back in beta, the scepter granted one stack of confusion on chain 3 as it created a clone. I would prefer they got rid of the clone and just gave us confusion even if it was only on the third attack like the clone is now. If you go to the wiki it still shows the scepter description as it was in beta.
^ My scepter still says that it iniflicts confusion on the third hit, yet it doesn’t.

It got gutted before it even went live. I kinda miss those Confusion on the third Auto. But with 3 clones up doing the same thing on one target, it’s OP so they removed it. :P

Wut he said. Thanks man.
Beta Scepters are a lot more useful than its sad sad state now. As with the trident, I’m not so sure if it ever got the chance to work as what is stated in the tooltip though.

I was always able to get 25 bleed with Trident regardless of this change. It makes me hit the cap faster, therefore gimps my damage in the fights where I NEED to use Trident. Cough Jellyfish Fractal Cough
How to hit 25 stacks? Crit gear + Tri4 x3. You don’t even need the Phantasm Crit trait, just the one that causes bleed on crit.
Given that Sceptre Clones only ever use Ether Bolt instead of the entire chain, making Ether Clone inflict Confusion would not change Clones at all.
But Anet wants Confusion to be a “rare” condition, that’s why they removed it from anything that can spam it.

Each Whaler hits 4×. With a bleed from each hit and assuming all 4 hits crit then three Phantasms would be able to maintain 24 stacks of Bleed. With a 70% chance to crit the odds of critting all 4x is 24.01%. The odds that all three Phantasms will do quadruple crit is 1.3%. This is also ignoring the fact that the Phantasm attacks once every 7 seconds and the bleeds only last 5 seconds, though this could be partially mitigated by Phantasmal Haste.
Case in point, the odds that you were able to maintain even 24 Bleeds on your own with just these three Phantasms are slim, especially without Phantasmal Fury and Phantasmal Haste. It is impossible for you to have maintained 25 since even in a perfect scenario 3 Illusions stacking 8x 5s Bleeds every 5.6 seconds would still only be 24. You probably had an ally helping you and didn’t realize it. In fact, you probably overwrote eachother’s bleeds fairly often.
So now, your three Phantasms will issue a decent stack of bleeds from crits while also inflicting a rarer condition, this lessens your potential stacking limitations. Furthermore, you are now inflicting Bleed yourself at a very reliable rate, potentially hitting the same enemy twice per attack.
Note that I’m not saying you couldn’t reliably burst out 15-20 Bleeds before. The odds that you’ll get, say, 8 crits (20 stacks) per 3 Illusion volley are much more reliable even with a lower crit rate (with a more reasonable 50% crit rate you’d expect to get 6 crits on average even). I’m simply pointing out that you are exaggerating the issue and neglecting to take into account your new innate ability to stack Bleeds (albiet at a lower duration in exchange for a higher rate) and the that you’ll still get some use from the less common confusion stacks you’ve gained in this scenario.

The problem is now, only one trident mesmer or necromancer is useful in a group setting.
