Not feeling it...
I main an Engi, and have recently tome leveled a Thief and Warrior. I’m now leveling a Mes – the old fashioned way, and I am now at level 18. I’m not seeing much that makes me want to continue….
I know that professions don’t often shine until level 80 (Engi for example). But it seems that Mes is mainly Perplexity and Torment – two of the most kitten-poor Conditions at the moment.
Don’t get me wrong. Mes, in WvW usually drive me crazy when I’m on my Engi.
When does it get better? Is it Condi? or Damage? What am I missing?
1. Don’t play condi until level 80, period.
2. Most mesmers don’t actually play condi, anyway (I happen to love it).
3. At level 80, bleeds > torment/confusion against NPCs.
To play condi Mesmer outside of sPvP is to play Mesmer wrong.

Bullkitten.

…..condi mesmer is not played in spvp lol. It’s strictly a WvW roaming spec. Frifox also used a condi build to kill the indestructible golem 4 times in 44.5 seconds, so…
Not a great PvE or sPvP condi class, but condi mesmer might get some scepter+torch+staff love in the future to make condi mesmer more universal than just a dueling build.

It’s useful if you want to solo-queue and don’t know if you can depend on your teammates. But yeah, it’s wildly overrated in sPvP, and only really shines in WvW roaming.
1 part level 80
1 part style of play
With a standard condi build you can solo dungeons in PvE if you want to. But if you are playing Mesmer for the first time and especially for leveling, make yourself a favor and take Greatsword. It does AE damage and has CC, it has everything you want right now. The Trait shenanigans come at a later point.
