1st i will do wild guess and say that i am sure other posts like this have been created, but wasnt happy with what i read.

That being said, im in love with mesmer, only character in game that i like.

So is there some pve high dmg for mesmer and is there a pvp build that goes for something with a play style of "control mage " ( Illusions for life )

Mesmer open world damage sucks balls. If you can afford it, I would highly suggest buying the expansion, HoT, and unlocking the full chronomancer traitline as soon as you can. It offers a lot more utility as well as our only true AoE direct damage skills other than shatters over base mesmer.

If that isn’t an option, then I would focus on a power/interruption build using Domination and Dueling with GS and Sw/Sw or Sw/Focus. Utility bring blink to move around with and anything else you find fun (mirror images can be really fun). If you want a condi build, run scepter/focus or scepter/torch and staff with Inspiration, Illusions, and Chaos. Generally TW is the most useful elite that base mesmer has unless you are trying to skip content, in which case choose MI.

There isn’t really a “control mage” build we can bring to PvP. You can run a shatter burst/lockdown build and try to burst people down incredibly quickly, or you can focus on team support, or with the Chronomancer traitline you can focus on being a fairly annoying bunker (though our ability to bunker was already nerfed fairly hard a couple months back)

High damage and mesmer don’t really go hand in hand….
Are you looking for solo/open-world or instanced content (dungeons/fractals/raids). For group content, you are expected to play a chronomancer and play support (alacrity/quickness). Any decently serious group is likely to refuse you if you play core mesmer and try to focus on damage instead of support.

For PvP, again as a core mesmer life is tough. But as a chronomancer, if by “control” you mean CC (aka interrupt build) you can do that. Most chronomancer do play condi though since this is the only way to do some sort of damage and reward shatter-spam which is also your source of sustain (using Inspiration).

Prepare to be disappointed. If you’re not running chrono you’re starting on the back foot in anything competitive and you’re worthless in any meaningful PvE. That doesn’t mean you can’t win in PvP playing core mesmer or even core power shatter, there’s plenty of bad players when the new season starts.

Maybe try interrupt builds but I find they’re next to useless on guards and scrappers, some rev builds too and sadly all of them are likely to be in your match.
