I recomend to se the video to understand how I mean the build to be played.

Interesting that you prefer shaving a few seconds off Blink to something more generally applicable like Deceptive Evasion or Blade Training. I clearly still don’t really “get” Blink if it’s worth a trait by itself, especially in such a competitive slot.

@Qaelyn, I dont trade Deceptive Evasion or Blade Training for cd time, I trade it for 1200 range. It let me blink better up and down enviorment after learned how to + it let me chase ppl down with the low cd, GS cripple and sword cripple.

The 1200 also save me from ganks combined with PU.

It’s very cool to see how you use your mobility for both offense and defense.

Looks good, although personally I couldn’t drop blade training or DE – but then I prefer to take mental torment instead of empowered illusions.

That’s a lot of might! Tempted to swap melandru runes for hoelbrak, but it’s hard to let go of fear (condition) being completely neutered by melandru+food!

I couldn’t live without blink! Nearly always trait for cooldown – I only trait for max range if not using staff, and have no other speed buff from runes/abilities.

Have you tried running travelers with that instead? I’d even replace that food with lemongrass poultry as well – that way you get -40% condi duration, +15% boon duration, 100 extra vitality (30 in the other stats) and perma 25% runspeed at the cost of 4% crit damage, 3% crit chance and 100 power (oh and those 5% difference in might duration which probably dont mean anything in terms of numbers, heh. Forgot about that).

I find that the speed alone give amazing mobility for a rather sluggish Mesmer and has helped me win a ton of fights on speed alone – even in PvP I have opted for Speed runes nowadays. Especially since this build run without focus. I cant imagine running at snail pace ever again :/

@Dawdler, have tetsed the traveler some, will test em more, not realy so impressed by them yet but mabye it will change. You forgetting thu the 5% chance to get a might stack on hit and its not 100 power its 135 power you trade.

Overall the suggestion you make is give up attack (power, some might, some crit and crit dmg) in favour for defense (vitality, speed, 30 on tou, heal etc). I think there is a bigger need for that in a non PU build as I feel this build already have extremly good survival, a focus in bag make the long running ok aswell and the blinking save alot of time.

But as said, I will keep test and if this had not been a PU build I would favored the traveler more.

Woa, this is exact build I’ve been running for a week now but with Deceptive Evasion and Debilitating Dissipation instead of the manipulation traits. I also traded Portal for the Daze mantra to get a few more interrupts in. Gotta say, loving it so far

sw/torch – sc/pistrol too.

Even with Hoelbrak, there is no way I’m running around with only the Torch as my condi cleanse. After the MP buff, I’m dumbfounded that people take the Torch trait over it.

@Alanis, dont get me wrong but you are free to change details for situations. I do that al the time better condition defense is 1 click away, superb condition defense in 2 click away. In spvp with this build (hotjoin) I use “mantra of the condition clense”, dueling = same, fighting 2 ppl who play heavy condition? 1 click change food and suddenly additional 40% condi downtime =60% downtime (can even be done in combat), get out of combat and swap portal for mantra and suddenly you can clense most of what can find you in stealth. Running in a group and need better total defense, go for Glamour of the condi clense.

Whole idea with any build is to have it flexible enought to be adapted after situation.

I do not however like the idea of go 10 for MP, it turn the build into something totaly different and that tree never been a favorite of mine. I want the vuln form dazes as a option, I want my “o kitten” torch stealth/blind to be on lower cd, facing a cuple of BS thiefs that save me alot better than MP.

Run more or less exactly the same build.

But like all builds with mesmers theres a fatal flaw and that condition dmg, the torch can help a little but when you get these 5k burns in a few secs and 6k torments and 16k bleeds your screwed theres literally nothing you can do. You can use arcane thievery as you already have reduced cd from it in this build but its poor still it seems buggy as hell only works 30% of the time.

I run used to run this build with protection runes you can have near perma protection with it.

@Dan, idd, with speedy setup my defense vs conditions is stealth and back off, try to avoid have stuff land at me and clens wht I can with torch, If im in constant battles with condi heavy ppl I simply turn portal off and use “mantra of clens the condition that kill me”

Yeah man, I tried your Hoelbrak runes all of last week and switched back to traveler on Assassin’s gear.

The 25% speed and 15% boon duration imo out weigh the might stacking. With just the might traits and sigils it’s still very easy to have at least 6 to 12 stacks up often.

This is a very good build Osicat but it’s just a shame it has no speed buff. I am also going to give it a try with the traveler runes.

I m on a budget (all my resources are currently on another character) but i could build like this with really few golds.

How important are traveler runes to the build?

P.S. i never used mesmer in www …..

@LordByron. Setup could deffenetly work, Personaly I would get knight instead of Zerker on chest and pants, also I think generosity is overkill, I should go for battle on the GS aswell or if you on a budget might on crit.

i already have the armor from pve … and i don t want to invest moneys in exotics now since i need ascended for fotms…

I’m using this build and having a lot of fun, but I’m having trouble against those thiefs with perma-stealth that just stun you and hit u for like 10k.

I’m not a “gw2 scholar” or anything, been playing with mesmer since the beginning, so I dont really know anything bout other classes.

Any tips on how to counter this?

Interrupt the stealth .

@Yannell, must ask you about your defensive stats here, I have a feeling it light be a stats/gear thing as thiefs realy is a non issue for me in this build. You should encounter hem with agis and protection up, mening 1 free block and 33%lesss dmg.

My toughtness is 1700 with my normal setup, 1800 with an extra chavaler assesory instead of a zerker. This is enought for 90% of the thiefs out there and if I get preassured I most of the time can stealth and use the 1200 range blink to lose ppl. Also, if i realy want to fight a 1 vs 1 thief who turn out to be a wery skilled player in open I drop out of combay, change the greatsword for scepter / pistol.

I have been using a similar build for a few months now, although mine is set-up as the following:

Mixture of zerk/valk armour and accessories, zerk weapons. GS with Sword/Pistol 20/20/30, I take empowered illusions, shattered concentration, deceptive evasion, debilitating dissipation (it’s free damage plus debuffs) the rest of are the normal PU traits.

Traveller runes have been on my mesmer since they were released and have always sat nicely with this build.

Hi Osi and fellow mesmers, I am new to mesmer and have little understanding of its play style. The first build I tried was a zerker phantasm which was pretty easy. I basically never shatter and try to stay alive while the phantasms mow down enemies.

I am now trying this PU build for the first time. Can you share some insight on basic things like rotation, when to stealth, when to shatter, when to use what weapon set etc?

When you new to power PU build and Mesmer in general there is a few starter tricks to master, after that you can keep improve.

1. Master your stealth and cd,s.

You need to not throw your stealth uptime away. Make sure you stay in stealth the full duration to get maximum defensive boons. To make sure you get this do your best to not attack directly in stealth. Create phantasm who attack for you and be carefull with auto attack. Alsomake sure you always have a escape stealth ready if you fight, you do not want to be in GS mode with weapon swap on 7 sec cd and al your stealths on cd vs a thief.

2. Make sure to cast your phantasms in stealth and heal in stealth to avoid be interrupted if you are focused by enemy fire.

3 Always keep a eye on your debut bar, if you are blinded use a auto attack and do not waist a phantasm or torch burn/blind attack.

4 keep a eye on enemy’s buff bar and do not try interrupt ppl with stability.

Gl now mate, more tips but start master this.

Hi Osi! Thanks so much for the advice. It’s really helpful. From the sounds of it, the bulk of our DPS comes from the phantasms and great sword? Would I not want to shatter my clones and phantasms with this build?

Core burst in build come from 3 sources in 2 major combos of burst.

Berserker + bouncing sword folowed by a mindwrack.

I Mage into Torch blind + sword 2 leap into blade flurry + mind wrack just as the torch blast hit.

This is often the burst who kill ppl and make you have a reliable killer in both weapon setups. You want to use mindwrack mostly, only time you use daze shatter is when you need a interrupt for extra might and vulnebility. Example you and 2 party members burst same target, then a daze shatter will give al 3 more dmg a+ cc on target and possible 5 might for you.

What do you think of signet of ether? Do you prefer ether feast over it? Also, is staff viable in this build?

I have come to the conclusion that with 20/20/30 PU and Sw/T, having staff as the second set lacks that ranged edge you need to take down runners, or deal any decent damage at range for that matter. It’s just too soft. Yes you can survive easier by being defensive, but downing someone is going to take a lot of effort.

You could spec for mental torment with staff and try a shatter/PU hybrid, but from testing I find that a lot weaker than just playing stealth/shatter with IP.

GS makes up for that offensive weakness, so the only way I would take staff there is by dropping torch (and having to make up for that by taking veil, which => less condition protection).

Edit: Alternatively scepter + sword/focus/pistol can be used in place of the GS if you want something more defensive.

hmm i cant really kill well with pu condi but pu power in a 1v1 is great.atm im trying swors/pistol scepter/torch in spvp and it does take time to kill tanky guys, but glass cannons melt. if a thief attacks me and goes into stealth i usually wait 2-3 seconds and then pop my stealth and dodge so when the thief poos out of stealth he attacks the clones. and i use magic bulled and cast my pistol phantasm on him right away. after i am able to have 1 pistol phantasm, every time he pops out of stealth the phantasm hits him and with this power pu build u can hit him quiet hard.
trick is to not shatter or only shatter when target is very low.
but then again what are u using power pu or condi pu? whats your armor? what runes do u use?

Staff is more viable in the Maximized Hybrid Phantasm build. Though, if I were to take staff (and I do, often in that build), I’d greatly suggest Pistol offhand instead of Torch.

Selan, im using power build, armor is soldier (maybe theres the problem ), Speed Runes since i dont have the gold to purchase Traveler’s.

well i dont run travellers runes with it. i have 2 sets 1 with melanru for the more defensive one and one offensive on with rune of the fighter. also berserk weapons and a mix between berserk and cavaliers trinkets. i run with around 2300power(no foo,no stacks) and 1700 toughness and it does take some time to kill a bunker for sure, but in wvw i run gs, sword/torch and dueling is going great with it, but i prefer in 1v1’s having my set up scepter/torch for defense and sword/pistol for cc and offense. so when a thief attacks me i use defense first, then swap to offense and spawn the pistol phantasm which can hit like a truck.
im not a big fan of travellers runes for my builds as i prefer having 100 extra toughness or 100 more power or condi instead of the speed and boon duration.
i’d say try to play around with it a little until u find the right pu power set up that makes u feel confi.
try different weapons and see what suits your playstyle.

@all. Sorry for not answered last days, been working nightshifts at the ambulance and slept during day.

@ Andytheffboy. Fiest give more healing when you need it at you don’t need healing to gain swiftness as in other builds. Staff have a nasty habit of give reviewed thru bounces and storm when you least want it. I prefer other weeps but use it sometimes when I need to sprint. Staff + trait staff + 1200 blink on short duration + traveler runes make you trololol fast.

@Pupi, in al honesty, if you have problem kill ppl in power PU build its eather a gear problem or a use of offensive skill problem.

Fully geared your power PU build have 2300~ power buffed + 250 from stacks + 100 from guard buff. 50~ buffed crit chance and 70 % for your phantasms. You also have a seriously effective might stacking + good sources of vulnebility.

This should be enough to down even tanks.

Like Selan say, don’t shatter your phantasm unless you have a opportunity to end the fight or they going wery low. Also in 1 vs 1 duels like Selan say pistol is the ultimate dueling weapon.

Also, remember the best part with Hidden Cat build is that it’s EXTREMLY flexible, same build can easy be run with a pistol+scepter / sword/torch as it can be with s/t + GS.

I even been running scepter+sword / sword/torch and traited for retaliation of block in sPvP some as it give ability to hold a point wery good.

@Pupi, singnet of Eather work we’ll in condition cat setup as a lot of your dmg can be done while you stealth and it’s a passive aggressive build. I feel it lack some usefulness in hidden cat setup as you often do and take dmg in bursts and their for want big chunky heals.

I see, i’ve tested the last couple hours, the Signet indeed doesnt work in PU build it seems.

agreed. i’ve used the signet in spvp for a month just to see if it works for me but went back to ether feast. if 2 enemies for example kill all my illusions and then charge me the heal itslef is terrible. i did like to be able to pop 2 pistol phantasms right away with it, but like u say osicat, in power pu it doesnt work as well.
im not really a big fan of the mantra heal as im in a zergbusting group in wvw and we face massive zergs with 15-20 people and therefore recharging the mantra is too hard. my all time favourite is the ether feast.
