We are by far the best 1v1 class there is. We have the most guaranteed purpose and team comp position for tourneys in the game. PvE is a bit ho-hum, but whatever it’s PvE and doesn’t matter much.

damage output is same like other classes so u can kill them
survivability is highest because half of damage is from illusions so u can concentrate on dodging\running , and let’s dont forget how much illusion distract enemy
it’s true that mesm is very bugged at this moment BUT with all those bugs it’s realy dreadful opponent , on small scale pvp (i think up to 5-6 ppl) mesm is really summons butthurt
so suggest u to read build thread & try some of them or invent another build , or change play style
Yeah, no offence but you must be doing something very wrong.
At Lv20 I took down 2 Exotic geared (One had a legendary sword) warriors at the same time with very little trouble in World vs World.
I’m curious though, as I just made my Mesmer, what nerf did they get?
Lol the prob with WvW is that it’s very unstandardized, due to anyone being able to join at any lvl. Mesmer barely got touched with the nerfs, this was almost more of a tweak than a nerf. I can’t believe how many people are whining about it, almost makes me regret that I’m the same class. The ONLY real reason I can think to whine is that it is a true issue of pve getting hit due to pvp balancing.
Man, I like my 80 engineer a lot. But i never felt more useful than I did last night in WvW on my 20’ish Mesmer. Sooo much fun. Always felt like i had plenty to do.
I believe Mesmer to be a solid class WvWvW and SPvP. Our defensive and manuverablity options are top notch. I suspect the OP is running a Power/Precision build or clone/phantasm utilities, which while viable are not as long term match oriented.
@TheRamosOnline: a couple of our phantasms had their cooldown time increased by 5 seconds, Chaos Armor had its cooldown time reduced by 5 seconds.

iSwordsman’s cd increased by 5s. (Suposed to be 3s)
iDuelist’s cd increased by 5s.
iWarlock’s cd increased by 3s. (Suposed to be 5s)
Chaos Armor’s cd decreased by 5s.
Chaos Storm’S cd increased by 5s.
Something like this if I remember correctly. It’s nothing major, people makes a drama out of it for nothing.
I highly recommend Taugrim’s Legion build for all things. (Though for open world PvE, I equip Feedback, Mantra of Distraction, and Phantasmal Defender. Haven’t done any dungeons yet. :V)
In PvE, you put out so much damage mobs crumble before they can touch you. If the Phantasms’ damage doesn’t down it, shattering them will. Unfortunately, it’s really only viable in 1v1; taking on groups of mobs does not work well.
In PvP everyone spends to much time tabbing through your phantasms and clones that you have ample time to chew through a sizeable portion of their health. Can’t down them? Moa their kitten and spawn more Phantasms.
aye its a good built, i use it sometimes too.. Its not the highest dps one but has a good mix of survivabilty and dps. U can always go glass cannon and work with shatter mechanics as well as phantasm and own dps which can do LOTS of damage but is harder to play right since u are likely to die more often.
If you want more run speed carry a focus. My set up is great sword/sword+focus and I can handle pretty much any situation. (could go staff instead of greatsword for more survivability, I like greatsword for bezerker in sieges). Blink helps my survivability by a huge amount too.

The phantasm cooldown increase is noticeable, but not deal-breaking. Phantasms still provide a pretty good source of raw dps, provide some awesome conditions, and if traited to make them tanky, can survive a few hits that would otherwise be on you. (plus, does no one else find it hilariously awesome that dropping a chaos storm on a phantasm will give them aegis, might, and retaliation, making them soooo much more awesome?)
I’m personally more worried about the chaos storm cd increase. I just don’t see why they decided it needed to be nerfed… it ticks for fairly low damage and half the conditions it applies don’t do damage, so it couldn’t have been because of the damage output. Was it because it made chaos armor too accessible? Then why did they lower the recharge on chaos armor? Having on demand chaos armor is better than requiring two skills to be off cooldown, and using one inside the other- either you waste chaos storm’s damage or you’re in melee range, in which case you’re taking huge damages because you’re squishy.
Is it because it made combo fields too accessible, and thus stacks of confusion were too common? Mesmers are THE class for applying confusion. Even still, the combo field alone with not apply the confusion- we need someone else to do that for us, since our only reliable blast finisher is greatsword #2. Heck, even the godly time warp isn’t worth a utility skill slot without a team to boost with it.
I just don’t understand the reasoning behind this nerf. Can someone explain it?

Chaos Storm is insanely powerful. It’s one of the most powerful single button presses in the game:
1. Chaos Armor combo field = Chaos Armor on you (minor)
2. Chaos Armor combo = Chaos Armor on your group (major). Compare Null Field / Feedback cooldowns to Chaos Storm’s.
3. Aegis spam. Compare Chaos Storm’s cooldown to any Aegis-granting ability in the game. Now realize it’s AOE, for multiple Aegis. Like the Guardian Virtue. Now compare those cooldowns.
4. Daze spam. Compare daze cooldowns to Chaos Storm cooldown.
Now, realize that Chaos Storm does ALL FOUR of those things in 1 button press, with a chance of multiple Dazes or Aegis, and can spread Chaos Armor to >5 people with multiple blast finishers.
And, Chaos storm does bonus direct and poison damage on top. And chill for crying out loud.
And that is why it’s a legitimate nerf. The Chaos Armor buff counteracts the nerf a little, because I think ANet balanced around the leap finisher more than they had accounted for everything else that Chaos Storm does.
Edit: Also, staff trait partially mitigates the nerf, so … not as bad as it seems for builds willing to invest into 20 Chaos.
To add to Easymode’s post. I think a factor was that, due to the speed staff users could chain Chaos Armor through the leap finishers, there was almost no need to ever use Staff+4. When I used to run with staff, I would rarely use Staff+4 because of how easy/cost-friendly it was to get chaos armor through combo fields.
Yup, especially since Null Field and Feedback can also give CA. Between those 2 and CS (and I could easily see having them all on my bar when running a staff), you’d almost never need to touch your #4 button.

I could write a long story about who I am and why I post this all. Since this is technically my first topic I open here. But it is late, and I am tired, yet I feel the need to drop my frustration here.
After being killed yet AGAIN I feel too frustrated to continue playing tonight. Perhaps my build just sucks but when it is 1 on1 I cannot even kill succesfully. My DPS is so crappy compared to other classes. That would have been acceptable if I was able to defend properly, but no… all I can do is clone myself and run.. run VERY slowly. Not to mention all of my stealth skills only last for a milisecond, a succesful escape 1on1 is not possible. Once i am sighted by an enemy, i just know i am going to die unless I am in a big group, as ironically that is how Mesmers ’’hide’’ themselves, not among clones but among team members. Well, on my server we are heavily outnumbered during World PVP so that option is very limited to me.
I am upset that Mesmers got nerfed in the patch, simply because it already is such a difficult fragile and weak class. If anything, Mesmer should be buffed, with either better defenses or escape options, OR increased damage output. It is ridiculous that everyone can blindly kill a mesmer, and a disgrace to the entire class. There is a reason you do not see many mesmers in world PVP, and I am starting to understand why everyone roles Archer/Thief/Necro. To answer your question: No, I am not going to reroll, I want to play Mesmer, but they have to make it ’’playable’’. Not impossible to play god kitten
Ah… You’re doing something wrong. I’m lvl 28, and JUST TODAY got used to my weapon skill bindings and weapon switching, which allows me to execute any weapon skill w/out thinking what I need to press. So this puts me roughly at 30% effectiveness, I still have to mouse click utility/elite skills, never ever use shatters because it’s simply not a habit, and I don’t even know how combo fields work (they don’t seem to work for me lol).
But anyway, today I finally went for some PVP (sPvP) for the first time, once I figured out where to go to join a game, I joined right away. I don’t even know what my spec was, it’s the automatic one you get when you join, I didn’t change anything. And I tell you what, Mesmers are AMAZING in PVP. Sure I got killed a lot due to my fumbles, but when I got the hang of things a little bit, my Mesmer really started to shine! And this is what I consider being around 30% effective because I’m a noob and don’t really know the basic mechanics of the game yet and my other binds are not setup yet. So either I was fighting 21 matches against absolute worst players ever on the other team, or I was doing something right, but bottom line is I was pretty much owning, relatively speaking when everything’s considered.

Memsers has a lot of aoe CCs and reflection tool.
Diversion, magic bullet, into the void, illusionary wave, feedback.
try another build which can support not dps.
Mine is 0 dom 30 duel 20inspiration 20 illusion and going well.

Seems like it was done because it was so easy to get CA from combos that people weren’t really using the skill. They had to increase the CD for CS since it was so powerful otherwise but didn’t want mesmer to lose any CA time, so they decreased the rate you can combo it, but decreased the skill so you can still keep it up about as often. Also, the skill only applies it to use but CS can apply it to allies. Maybe they saw that as a problem, plus AFAIK the skill always grants protection while the combo CA does not.

I don’t think ANet was bothered by the Mesmer’s high personal uptime on Chaos Armor. I think the issue was the high group uptime on Chaos Armor plus all the other benefits of Chaos Storm.
So when they nerfed Storm they buffed Chaos Armor to maintain the Mesmer’s personal uptime on it.

No way, I really can’t believe you’re serious. Mesmer is absolutely awesome in PvP and there are waaaaaay to many of them already.
It’s probably the number 2 class as far as relative power, maybe 3. imho. This is situationally dependant as some other classes are better in certain areas. But overall… the Mesmer is in a VERY GOOD place.

Yea look at how our thieves are being nerfed. We get slapped around weekly I always check the updates now :P just to make sure my spells didn’t get slammed down :P
I think mesmers are extremely powerful. It really takes concentration to kill a mesmer SIMPLY because of your stealth + clones. When 2 clones are popped, then a stealth ability, it’s pretty difficult for us thieves to kill u.
And the bird skill is just mean. Just. Mean.
