This may seem strange to some, but I have never used Prismatic Understanding, and am rather curious about it. Can someone with experience using PU give tips for a start-up P-Understander like me to how one PU’s?

If someone is more willing to, I think a comprehensive guide to PU and other build-types should be made. Lyssa’s Grimoire and the Build List are good, but specifics on metas should be a thing as well, becoming more specialized help. If this already exists, please point me in that direction as well.

1] Trait PU (4/4/6/0/0)
2] Gear in full condi (rabids preferably)
3] Have at least Scepter&Torch
4] Go into pvp mode of your choice
5] Apply face gently to keyboard, proceed to roll back and forth

Congrats, you are now a pro PU mesmer.

Alternatively (My Preference, Above is good too)
1] Trait PU (4/4/6/0/0)
2] Gear in full power (zerkers preferably)
3] Equip GS + Sw/T
4] Go into WvW.
5] Apply face gently to keyboard, proceed to roll back and forth
6]Congrats, you are now a pro PU mesmer.

^^ I play this when I feel like winning 1v2’s even though I’m not very good.

I don’t really like PU in PvP. You shouldn’t be stealthing on points.

I have a reasonably fleshed out guide in my mesmer guide to solo queue, you can take a look at that.

Oh yeah, I forgot people actually play PU in zerker. At least that adds a little bit of effort since you theoretically can be killed sometimes.

Do people still play PU condi? I haven’t seen too many people running PU anymore. The spec is so slow now with DD nerf, I mean what do you even do now, just run around and pull some aggro before people realize you are doing like no dmg and ignore you (even more than before)?

To add a comment to OP: I think the consensus is that the Debilitating Dissipation nerf hit all condi specs very hard, and the standard PU condi spec is of questionable viability now (many thought it was of questionable viability before). I know pyro says he still runs it, but I haven’t seen anyone lately, and I think it’s because it is now a complete and total bummer. The dmg output just got wrecked with DD nerf. As far as power PU, I think you will have bad dmg and die without having too much fun (I don’t think power PU was really viable even before Sep 9).

There are a few.

But as stated, PU suffers from it’s poor mobility(aka landspeed).

In this fight with my latest condi build you can see how by simply outpacing the PU mesmer using scepter/torch staff I control the fight entirely. I decide where and when our engagements happen and there’s nothing he can do about it.

Just gonna put it out there….that PU mesmer was abysmal.

They didn’t proc blocks on your easily blockable skills. They didn’t cleanse your conditions rapidly (indeed, may not have even had many cleanses, a basic blunder in and of itself), didn’t bait your torment blocks with skills before going for persistent aoe like chaos storm, and ran around with torment on them. Additionally, they didn’t pressure you when they could have. Your condition removal in that build is extremely lacking once your heal is on cooldown. At multiple times you were in incredibly vulnerable positions, with no removals and multiple conditions. Properly applied pressure could have caused you to crumple, but they kept running or autoattacking or whatever.

I could go on, but suffice to say a skillfully played PU condie build would have ripped your build to pieces. This isn’t to say that it’s not an interesting and strong build, but it simply doesn’t measure up to the condition pressure that is possible when one plays PU conditions with actual skill, not just facerolling like I saw in that video.

These nouns and adjectives don’t go together.

Just because you unreasonably have rabidly white-hot hatred for PU condie builds doesn’t mean the rest of this forum thinks in the same distorted fashion.

I admit, I’ve faced far better PU condi users.

There are PU builds which are not condi builds. It seems that 95% of people mean a condi build when they say PU mesmer, but the trait can be used in power/hybrid builds.

Here’s what I use in silver tier WvW roaming

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhQQNAR7ansISZa2oGupB3aGJ1IM996LJHCK5XIA-T1yHABnt/AQKpE7CAEo6DIqCTPKT8RpwAPEAv0NAwRA4OlgBAQAYlPX4CX46sMAVLA-w

I finally broke down and put in one energy sigil, and switched to might on dodge food.

I find it very fun

…but you work with the footage you’ve got. Understandable, but still a bit disingenuous to use it to point out specific potential weaknesses that really can be worked around and ameliorated with a different playstyle in the same build.
