Generally, abilities are aligned from the shortest cooldown (key 1) to the abilities with the longest cooldown (key 5) for all weapons for all classes. Nothing stops you from binding the keys differently though.

This. While that change might be a QoL change for someone new, it certainly wouldn’t be for me (and anyone else who has played for any length of time at all) – I’m used to the skills where they’re at and definitely wouldn’t want to learn new positions for the weapon skills.

I’ve been hoping for the ability to swap around the order of #2 – #5 skills for ages.
Not only phantasms, but I’d like to have all the ground targeted skills on the same button (curtain, mind stab, chaos storm).
Let’s just bind all skill effects and related conditions to the 1 skill, that way we can all just spam 1 all day to full effect.
It isnt that hard to know what each skill on a weapon does, might as well put all clone producing skills on skill 2.
For pistol that’s because it’s an offhand weapon. 4 and 5 skills are determined by your offhand while 1, 2, and 3 are determined by your main hand. Changing the off hand illusion to 3 would be very weird if you skills went main hand, main hand, off hand, main hand, off hand.
For the two handed weapons they seem to be arranged by base cooldown time. But are you saying you use all these weapons commonly enough that this is an issue?

We can swap the order of utility skills – we should be able to swap the order of weapon skills (apart from the auto attack).
It would be nice to be able to swap the order of weapon skills.
For user interface… allow skills to be rearranged in the “Weapon Skill” pane which already exists the hero dialog. The changes would be set for the weapon type and permanent for that character. For simplicity, disallow changes of offhand skills to 1/2/3 or mainhand skills to 4/5.

Yep, nice and simple. Keep offhand skills offhand, and same with mainhand. Two handed skills can be moved around more freely. Permanent change for class weapons in your hero screen.

The human brain is a wonderful thing. With a little practice and repetition, it’ll actually bind the pathway from your will to the correct key on your keyboard or mouse for you.
I know it’s archaic, and hardly hip or fly to talk about brains, wills, and consciousness anymore what with all this technical computer jargon flying around, but it really is an incredible thing to put to good use.

So? Everyone has different preferences for controls, uses different hardware, different key layouts. Having this feature would not have a negative effect on anyone, so unless for some reason it takes a lot of dev time to do which would be better spent elsewhere, there is no reason to leave this out – given the usual focus on unnecessary fluff, this should be done.
I expect when we get more weapon skills, then they’ll have to make the option for swapping – though it could be years before that happens.
I haven’t spouted any technical jargon in any case and from what I can see there isn’t any in this thread either – I’m not trained in that sort of thing beyond consumer knowledge.
