Title FAIL. I meant Phantasmal Disenchanter

In pvp.

It boils down to Phantasm vs combo field.

not many ppl are focusing illusions even if they are primary source of mesmers dmg… so i think that if you are not using shatters often, it could be better to use Disenchanter, but i havent tried it, im usually shattering alot

The phantasm has the big disadvantage that you can’t use it without a target. I stopped using it after dying to conditions simply because there was nothing around to kill.

It has the advantage of being a clone factory, with my traits the recharge on it is 16s I think, so it’s not really a big deal to use it for shatter fodder, you’ll get another one out pretty quick. I did like it for that reason, so I don’t think its horrible.

If you are with a group and someone else can cover its weakness, you might like it. Just know you have to be close enough to its target to catch the bounce or it won’t hit you.

In sPvP it MIGHT work, the thing is that the disenchanter is random who it targets and it only targets once every 4.5 seconds, and it targets enemies as well as foes, the projectile does bounce but there’s no guarantee it’ll hit you when you need it, some conditions don’t even last 4.5 seconds but need stripping urgently.

In a big zerg on zerg WvW battle the odds of the disenchanter getting the effect onto you is incredibly low.

Personally I’m of the opinion it’s better to have a field with a long recharge that can totally cleanse all allies in a large area when it’s absolutely needed, as opposed to a phantasm that will keep everyone cleaned up a bit, but might miss that stun, bleed or immobilise that is about to kill you. If condition removal is the primary concern the mantra isn’t shabby either, but doesn’t strip boons or provide a combo field which is incredibly useful in large team battles

I’d rather go with Phantasmal Warden and dropping Temporal Curtain on it for In-combat condition curing, then Phantasmal Disenchanter in PvE.
Cleansing Bolts > Phantasmal Disenchanter.
That said, I’ll still grab Null Field for condition curing for a group over the Cleansing Bolt combo.

I like both.

I find the disenchanter useful when solo because it removes a condition on me immediately, sucks up some hits, and is relatively spammable with a 16s c/d.

Null field is a really powerful skill in a group or in PvP (in my limited experience so far). It’s also a combo field and gives yet one more chaos armor when using the staff (null + staff 2). I also like how it shuts down all conditions for the duration of the skill. Fighting something that spams conditions (like poison), just stand in a null-field and get your healz off .

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

I like null field a lot. It gets rid of all the stuff you don’t want immediately, and keeps them away for a little while. Foes can’t kill it, and if you have a staff, sword, or torch equipt you can make combo finishers with it and gain chaos armor, which is a big deal.

Also if you use iDuelist, null field allows you to add extra confusion stacks on your foe for more damage. Not too shabby.
