Phantasms should Cast even without a target.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
In underwater you can cast them without a target. Not in downed state.
But a lot of players have the auto target active, even if you have cast without target, with that help you usually never lose it while you have a enemy at your visual range and the red indicator below the skill show you when you shouldn’t use the skill. Is not a big diference in that case, the only thing you must do is use your skills when you see your enemy and don’t have the red indicator active. The tab key is your friend too.
(edited by Zoser.7245)
I think you’re missing the point. I’m not a Mesmer. I feel like when they cast it and they lose their target (such as an enemy going in stealth) it shouldn’t still spawn the Phantasm, or if they use it without a target it should still cast and not spawn a phantasm, because with the way the skill locks are now when they don’t have an enemy they cant “accidentally” blow a cooldown from bad playing like every other class does.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
If I understood you well, and our underwater skills (phantasms too) works as you say, like your skills. I see no problem to have the same on terrain. I only just tried to explain that there is no a big diference controlling the situation and about all for players that use the aid.
For me no problem. I play other proffessions too testing things although my main is mesmer.
(edited by Zoser.7245)
with this change, honestly, most good players wouldn’t notice a difference, beyond having a good/working #2 ability. Those who thoughtlessly spam abilities and run in circles, however would have a bit more trouble.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I really don’t understand what you’re saying. It seems like you’re going back in forth.
Right now mesmers need a target to cast illusions and clones.
In your invisiblity scenario, channeled skills still follow if somebody is stealthed. For example if a ranger is attacking a thief and hits the #2 lbow rapid fire skill, the whole skill will follow the thief even if he stealths through the channel.
As for the ‘blowing your skill’… no. I would be okay with this once the fix the targetting system. But right now it is way to easy to lose your target.
(edited by Ethics.4519)
Phantasm cast works like a channel skill, if we are not allowed to make it hit cause they stealth when you cast it, they can do this for all other channeled skills like “Rapid Fire”, Necro Axe #2 (forgot name) etc. List can pretty much go forever. Then I’ll accept it. And if thief get out of stealth if they use pistol unload… I clearly see where they attack from… right.
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…
I was talking about the casting/targetting itself. But yes, channeled skills once has been casted will follow you. The #2 lbow or #3 unload (dual wield pistol) are examples, even if you use decoy(stealth) it will continue hitting and following you. As you can understand channeled phantasm must work idem.
(edited by Zoser.7245)
Okay scratch the after summon part. I didn’t realize even non channeled(over-time) casts still hit after stealth. I did some testing, that’s correct. However I still feel like if you press the button AFTER you lose your target, it should still cast and just have no effect like any other spell in the game.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
On the other hand, having the need for a target also makes things more difficult. We can’t spam abilities around like say my engineer when a target stealths up. If our curtain is on cooldown we barely have anything to damage the thief in his refuge. Other classes can spam there aoe’s just like your necro depending on build but mesmer can’t.

Having your phant’s fire off blank rounds because you used it without a target wouldn’t change this at all. It would just require you to pay attention when spamming Phant buttons instead of them just not doing anything if you lost your target, they’d go on CD like any other attack would if you used it without a target. (Again, point in case being Corrupt Boon)

Somehow i’m thinking you underestimate a lot of players in this corner of the forums…

Every phantasm/clone (aside for some dodges) have a reason and purpose. None of them are spammed (aside for some dodges). This is why I make at least a slightly above mesmer.
If you find somebody that is smashing illusions/clones just to button mash, then you should have an easy time killing them without the added cd.
There are other instances that would need to be changed first before I would even be comfortable with this, much like the thief being able to spam #1 attacks in stealth until it actually lands.

This is just one instance of things I don’t like. Perma stealth, what you mentioned about stealth attacks, Phants never going on CD unless you have a valid target, all bother me. And I’d go as far as saying I don’t really like Thief Sword 2, them having a no cooldown stun break teleport. That’s not my favorite either.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Eh, i don’t think i’d even notice a difference, then again, i don’t just go into a fight and smash my face into the keyboard like you seem to think mesmers do…

Well, I specifically said good mesmers likely wouldn’t notice a difference so they’d only feel a down 2 buff. Other mesmers on the otherhand would see a difference in needing to pay more attention.

Another qqer, stop whining and just play, learn, get skilled.
I dislike this and that, lets nerf this and that, huh.
There are things I dislike in the game but hey it is only as good as it gets. and you do not/will not see me whining about it. You should ask for some nerf/buff/change in real life too, because there are things we hate/dislike. You either use these things as an excuse or you find ways to beat it. Same in game same everywhere. You people seem to me like spoiled brats just whining all over the place because it is not good enough for you. But you know what, it will never be good enough, because that mechanism to get over a problem is completely lacking in some people.

Um… Yeah… Okay, I’ll bite. Yes things to get “patched” in real life when things suck, just wanted to point out (slavery, womens rights, the list goes on). Guess why. Because people say something. It’s a slight change that wouldn’t effect most player and it’d make a class that’s seen as way too easy to play for how powerful it is a LITTLE less face roll, and it actually FIXES a bigger issue for them. Grow up, things have to change for balance and development, if the world was run by your logic, we’d all be kittened.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
OPs suggestion seems reasonable enough. Wouldn’t affect me either since I target before attacking – I don’t spamclick a phantasm skill with autotarget on.

I will give you something to bite.
You have not even understood my metaphor. God=developers in this game. You only seem to be crying out to them instead of doing something about it yourself such as instead of just not-caring the “Oh mesmer so powerful, cry” type of players or finding a better way to deal with mesmers.
It’s a slight change that wouldn’t effect most player and it’d make a class that’s seen as way too easy to play for how powerful it is a LITTLE less face roll
BS. Let me show you why your suggestion would not accomplish anything.
Considering your suggestion is actually applied, this would only affect button smasher newbies and their opponents and for the average mesmer most likely only thief class opponents as thief stealths so often. So this suggestion would only weaken the mesmer profession -on average- against thieves and not at all so against any other profession. It would also weaken the button smasher newbies but hey, even an average player can (should be able to) own a button smasher mesmer.
On the other hand it would probably add more to the skilled mesmer player and would not matter much for them at all. And guess what? People who cry mesmer is too strong do not cry because they run into newbie button smasher mesmers, they cry because they fail against skilled players.
Mesmer is not an easy class to fully master, it has a different learning curve, it is obviously no guardian.
and it actually FIXES a bigger issue for them. Grow up, things have to change for balance and development, if the world was run by your logic, we’d all be kittened.
What is the bigger issue to fix? The issue that some lowbies are QQing whining all over the place that mesmer is “too strong”. That is not an issue for me or anyone else, it is THEIR issue. Only spoiled little brats who are used to getting it all ready and good from their parents want “something” but want it to be delivered to them without effort. They also tend to find excuses as to why they are whining so hard. I call these the “excuse” people and I do not give a kitten about their whining.
See:
Okay, this may be a “nerf mes” thread, but it’s only out of fairness to the rest. I feel like because Mesmer is already incredibly powerful in 1v1 situations they don’t need handicaps like the “target required” for phantasms.
^^whining+excuse^^
Instead of finding ways to beat mesmers you guys just cry.
World is run by my logic, people who end bad things end it by effort instead of whining and praying.

If you’re crying this hard about me suggesting that your phantasm’s go on cool down like every other spell in the game if you misuse it, you have some serious issues. You need to calm down and take a serious look at your life man.

Here is your answer:
Because they are poor players. Despite the advice given to them they would rather take the easy route and QQ for nerfs until Anet gives it to them.
/inB4flak
This game is going down the hill because of players who are incapable of thinking and actually producing a way to beat another class. These forums are flooded with this kind of BS, this is not only about you and I made it obvious in my post. If you have not understood that too then you are the one with some serious issues, I advise you to get a brain implantation.
I gave you a logical answer as to why it will not do any good, plus I showed you why this QQer attitude is a failure. Simple as that. Guess you have not been expecting an all serious answer since you actually posted without seriousness.
(edited by Serhend.6382)
This isn’t even really a “qq” it just makes logical sense and is balanced. What are you losing out by being punished if you do something stupid, while GAINING a working 2 for the good players who need it? I don’t think you’re even actually thinking about the concept here and just attacking me because you smell “nerf” when it really wouldn’t be a nerf unless you’re already a terrible Mesmer.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Read my lengthy post again, obviously you did not read it all of it. It will tell you why your so-called suggestion would be useless in reality. Even if you said buff I would react in a similar way. More than buffs and nerfs we need smart people who are ambitious to get their skill up instead of qq. And yes, it is a qq, check it out:

It’s a basic change that would be a side-step and benefit the general Mesmer, and make it less mindless for noobs, does that help? I don’t feel like playing word games with a numbskull.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)

Read it.
It only affects the “mesmer profession”s standing against thieves and nothing else if we exclude newbie button smashers from the equation. And thief is the last class that should whine about mesmers being too strong.
It is not a side-step, it is a useless suggestion that would not even serve the nerfing intention you have other than nerfing the mesmers mainly against thieves.
And NO, there is no benefit to general mesmer or whatsoever in this suggestion, other than an idiotic effort to qq for nerf.
You better go borrow some IQ and critical thinking from a smart friend of yours before calling people numbskull. You did not even get what I said LOL.

Do you even play the Mesmer? Their downed state #2 is a phantasm and requires a target. This would help them against shadow-stomps. They’ve been asking for this. And it makes Mesmers a little less of a “Brain dead” class. The class could use a boost to its reputation by making it a little less of a noob face-roll class.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
1) If you cannot actually manage to kill a brain dead newbie button smasher mesmer with any class at all then you should look at yourself to find the problem.
2) Downed state 2, I do not care about downed state 2, if I am downed then I either played wrong or the guy is better than me and either way I have to get better.
3) Downed state 2, as you say it, would only benefit against thieves, again I could not care less, 1 out of 8 classes, and I have to be downed to see it work, such a great benefit
4) Benefit or nerf, I do not want both, it is balanced as is
IN SUMMARY:
Your offer makes mesmer weak virtually only against thieves and how is that an overall balance among all professions and mesmer.
Ironically your suggestion provides a buff virtually only against thieves BUT in downed state whereas it weakens mesmers against thieves while not downed/ie while alive.
Just so much lol.
Mesmers asking for downed state 2 improvement can go to hell, if you are downed that is your problem, not A-net’s.
You and I are not the only players in the game, you know.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
You and I are not the only players in the game, you know.
So, here you get another one:
Leave us mesmers alone. Fix our bugs and that should be it. The class is already quite balanced and definitely (imho) one of the most fun to play.

let Anet make phantoms insta cast and problem solved

This is why we (mesmer community) are having an issue with this suggestion. This will not nerf our playstyle at all. The thing it does effect, is if people like you were to continually complain about this, is the developers would spend time coding and working on this. This is taking away time that they should be putting into meaninful work like fixing izerker and other notorious bugs.
Also, with Anet’s track record of mesmer fixes, most likely something will get bugged during this change and will take 3months for Anet to acknowledge it and another 3 months to fix it, if they agree they broke it .
I’m agree, first fix our bugs and then perhaps we can start to talk about things that works in one or another way. The last thing we want is that they change things that are working and introduce new bugs doing that.
