Playing torch in a power build
hi,
using PU, Sc/T and Sw/Sw in a powerbuild, and i really enjoy it.
to answer your questions:
- 3.9 sec of burning will be uprounded (afaik)
- Don’t know if its working, but i would never slot this sigil in a powerbuild (and i come up with around 600 CD)
- your numbers for the iMage are nearly correct. It hits for 2k crit if the setup is complete (25 vulnerability, pretty easy to archive with my build). my swordsman crits for around 6k.
The iMage Attack bounces and procs retaliation and confusion and can be dodged (like every other phantasmattack)
- the damage of the prestige is way higher. the highest seen crit was around 1,9k (AoE)
- cleansing conditions remove one condition per torchskill (prestige, iMage)
- the blast finisher is sometimes hard to archive, because you have to be in the same field for the entire prestige-duration (4sek.)
I’ve just tested the Sigil of Smoldering and it seems to work but not alter the tooltip.
- 20 in Domination and 40% condition duration food, 4.75 sec on tooltip – 4 ticks of burn
- + 10% duration from 2 x Rune of Lyssa, 5 sec on tooltip, – 5 ticks of burn
- + 10% duration from Sigil of Smoldering, 4.75 sec on tooltip – 5 ticks of burn
This was tested in the mists and in open world PvE to check food buffs weren’t acting oddly in the mists.
Incidentally 30 in Domination and no other condition duration buffs give a tooltip of 4 seconds (3×1.3 = 3.9) so rounded up but only gives 3 burn ticks.

Personally the burning and confusion are supplementary – I don’t put any extra condition damage for them.
Works perfectly well to rack up the power/precision, and use the torch for utility with the conditions as a little extra on top.
- Do you need to get to the full 4 seconds of duration to get a fourth burn tick? With 30% condition duration, I could get to 3.9 seconds and it wouldn’t be much of a hit on my build. I thought I read that someone was getting the last tick when they got above .75 seconds.
Since I’ve made this exact mistake in one of my posts in the engineer subforum yesterday you might refer to that. It has been corrected in the meantime to avoid any further confusion. (not the condition)
As two other members already pointed out 3.9 seconds is enough to get the next tick. According to the wiki condi duration is rounded to the nearest quarter second. So everything above .88 should suffice.

The torches works ok in a power build. That being said, while the prestige can so a bit of damage along with the iMage, that’s not why you take it. The damage the torch does is minimal. You take it for the utility of the prestige.
