Agreed.
I miss mimic bubble shield so much – such a terrible decision to remove it.
What put salt in the wound was the fact that mimic would be perfect in the LB ranger meta. Simply put, it seemed ANet thought Mesmers might be too strong with Mimic and all the other reflects against a ranger, so they nerfed it to something nobody needs. Therefore, they should at least give us something useful if they don’t want us to have the shield-bubble. Maybe if this current mimic could let us copy Defiance from a boss, it could be good in PvE, but right now it’s all-round bad.
Imo nobody even uses mimic for pvp currently.
As a concept mimic is unique & good.
The problem is they didn’t go far enough with who it could copy boons from.
If it could simply copy boons off of allies it would be great & especially so if used in combo with signet of inspiration.

Not really unique when now it overlaps so much with arcane thievery.
Bubble shield was unique and one of the coolest animations in the game.
I agree mimic is a surprising good shield in the game.but barely seen anyone use it in dungeons……it is fun when I deflect them missiles in ARAH…and now that it’s just copying boons.which is useless in PVE plus its not hard to get boons by ur traits or by your allies. Soi really think it sucks…..its a real useless skill now.
Feedback works fine, but as soon enemy players see the big pink dome around them, they just stop shooting or dodge out of it. Mimic was harder to notice. I really miss that skill. Even more now, with all the pew pew rangers out there.
how about bring back the OLD GW 1 mesmer all together…this is likea totally different class…not that I dont Love it but it docent feel like a Mesmer anymore..its more of a trickster or VEILER,….lost all essence of mesmer besides the skill names
i loved Mimic..why the hell change that to an irrelevant skill….
I still think the old Mimic would have been fine if they just made it reflect/block from the start of cast. >>
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
Me too, I loved the old mimic. I haven’t even tried the new one simply because I do not like the mesmer support/boon/share type of play style.
Saying that, I did try to replace it with feedback and worked well enough for me. Ok, competent players will move out of it but the skill, depending on how and where you move, will grant a neat 6 seconds of area denial. The way I use it is cast on player, if they move out you run around it, keeping the bubble always between yourself and the enemy. If I am approacing a defendend node, I would cast the bubble on the player, said ranger will most likely move out of it. At this point I just blink in it, decapping the node. There is nothing they can do to you uless they go melee and you should be prepared for that and iwave them out of it.
The new mimic helped me to dust off this great utility althought it has to compete with decoy/blink/condi removal, but this is the same issue with the old mimic so, not a “new” problem.
But I understand that the OP was referring to the pve side of the game, and I couldn’t agree more with. My feeling is that the change was done because of the buff to the rangers, which is crazy. I never seen a game where a profession was buffed and another was nerfed because of it. ANet tried to water it down a bit by advertizing the revamp of mimic under the build diversity label. Ok, but what I do not understand is why other professions were not affected by this change. Engineers come to mind, for example.
I usually do not go on forums and complain about changes. I always thought the devs, whatever game I am playing know more than I do. But this and the lag problems experienced in the past few months! left me wondering about ANet.
All in all this is a poor and bad decision.
Sorry if I reopen this post, but I feel really sad when I think that they destroyed an average skill in something completely useless like the new Mimic (arcane thievery is better prarically in every aspect).
What do you think? Do you like the new one?
I really would like to see the copy skills from GW1 Mesmer.
this is getting old..request. thread already bin created & debated. Mimic old & new is useless. Lets get something new & useful for once. & forget about bringing back the old mimic, nobody played it.
I agree that the old mimic needs to come back the new one is next to useless and i have yet to see any memser use it effectively in a competitive environmanet like wvw or pvp
The only thing that could make the current version even remotely useful is if it were to steal all the boons (complete boon strip).

Part of the reason it was slotted for change was its clunky design. Trouble is the devs got lazy and rushed it last minute (nerfed it to fix the PvE problem). So reverting it isn’t an option. It needs a proper redesign, and we posed a ton of good ideas on how to do this back when the devs came to the forum and joined the discussion.

Highly doubtful as judging by how most things work mimic would just send back one of the shots. The ranger attacks are mostly death by a thousand cuts (maul being about the only exception) and as for it being meta how many did you see at a tournament.
