Please reduce the casting time of Phantasmal Defender, it takes too long to cast and by the time you’ve cast it you’re almost dead or it gets interrupted. It’s manageable if you have lots in vitality and toughness, but if you don’t it can be too dangerous to use due to the casting time.

Mesmer is a hard profession to master and it’s hard enough as it is fighting against other professions in pvp who attack you at 100 miles per hour.

Personally being a hard profession to master is one of the draws of the mesmer. If you have a look around the forums there are plenty of builds that don’t depend on the defender for survivability. Alternatively you could plan your activation better.

Exactly, i would actuallyu prefer if mesmer stays hard to master please. I dont want mesmer going through what warriors went through now. Besides decoy → iDefender. Sorted.. LoS? sweet. GS#5d → iDefender, Staff #2 while casting iDefender or staff #5 casting iDefender inside chaos storm. Torch #4, signet of dom, daze, mass invis, moa…

If you are complaining about the cast times for phantasmal defender, go try out mantra’s. Even in pvp I have no trouble charging up a mantra through stealth, distortion, even aegis/stability has helped me in the past. Try some of the techniques people use to charge up mantra’s with defender.

I genuinely don’t mind it because the Phantasm itself is very strong. It needs a downside, in this case when to get it out. You can get it out early, but then you risk that the enemy either avoids you entirely, or immediately burns the Defender.

And if you try to use it later, you risk interruption or burst.

In turn, once it’s out and going, the Defender is a lot of added HP.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I dunno this does sound a bit like you’re patronizing me. I’ve been playing this game from since nearly the beginning and I don’t use any other profession except the mesmer, so I know how the mesmer can be like and I’ve stuck with the profession. It’s not like I’m asking for a major overhaul I’m just asking for a quicker casting time to one skill, that’s sounds like a reasonable request. It’s not like devs haven’t made changes to the mesmer before. Anyway nevermind I guess there are other ways of going about it.

In particular my major problem is with….THIEVES!!! I’ve tried different builds and I’ve tried some of the suggestions in dealing with them but the only way I’ve been able to manage them is with with is by putting a lot in vitality and toughness. I’ve been told you don’t need to do this in order to have good defence. I just don’t know how you can do that when a thief appears out of nowhere and then takes almost all your health. I had to deal with a situation like this and I took certain suggestions, I used blurred frenzy and laid down chaos storm and then I ran like hell because the thief had taken almost all my health with his sneak attack. That situation made me decide to add a lot in vitality and toughness the next time I encountered a thief I actually made the thief run because I was too much for him.

However even if you don’t have a lot or nothing in toughness and vitality it is possible to beat a thief I think with practice. The real difficult part is when you think nobody is around and a thief appears out of nowhere and strikes. You have to bare in mind that PD was suggested in order to deal with thieves but in the situation I’m talking about PD is not good unless you already have an active defence. If you have 0 in toughness and vitaility by the time you break out PD you’re gonna be dead or almost dead.

Anyway I guess I need to read more I just got stuff going on in RL so it makes it difficult to absorb it all.

I don’t know, is asking for a quicker casting time for PD mean I want mesmer to be easy to master? Really? You don’t think you’re blowing this out of proportion? So the mesmer profession is perfect? So if anyone makes a suggestion for improvement that means they’re being silly? Like I said I’ve been playing mesmer from the very beginning. Well yeah I don’t know everything about the mesmer but I feel a bit insulted. I’m not one of those players that started playing mesmer and stopped, I play nothing but mesmer.
