Is there any way to see if you’re out of range for the portal to work?
Or is it a mere guess everytime?

There are tricks you can use to determine range, but there’s absolutely no ingame indicators.

They should put red bar under the “Portal Exeunt” like every other skill has…

It can be interesting plotting where to run back to. We get to figure in distance, height, etc.. I have personally had to apologize for miscalculating and looking like a royal noob. My other claim to shame is jumping down and forgetting to open return port..
