The thing is……. phantasm mesmer is great till you face about rank 80 on the leaderboards or less (at least on EU).
The fact that pro players will just interrupt your casting by blinds/daze anything that’ll interrupt/negate your summon is really killing the phantasm build.

In team fights, the phantasm will get wiped immediatly because the signet buff won’t apply immediatly and also the only aoe phantasms are phantasmal warden and phantasmal berserker. But phantasmal warden doesn’t move, and phantasmal berserker is bugged hitting for 1-2k in berserker gear. Also when you get focussed you don’t really have much of a defence, so you’ll be wiped from the fight immediatly and most of the time you’ll be walking to a point. Only place where phantasm mesmer shines is in a 1v1 server or defending a point, but when multiple enemies are coming you’ve pretty much lost.

Couldn’t help but feel your survivability was a bit low while watching you against the first two. You don’t run any toughness gear like Osi or 7mirrors, do you?

Good video though, I enjoyed it. My biggest annoyance with phantasm builds is that they can be slow without focus (and warden isn’t a great choice for phantasm builds in pvp) and that when they use staff they don’t usually have the 20% cd trait which means you can’t bring out 2 phants every 12 secs like you can with sw/sw + sw/pi, and if you run into a large group fight you don’t bring as much to the table.

Sweet vid. I find it interesting how some people play a phantasm build that is either offensive or defensive. Currently I play a more defensive one focused on blocks. But your vid def outlines some solid strengths I may want to incorporate into my build

Roaming wvw I didn’t have the money to change from my shatter gear but I used a phantasm build with the shatter gear and it didn’t come out to bad :P and I completely agree with u renegade. Running tank Mesmer phantasm in tpvp its really nothing u can do when u get hard focused and that was in top 100 rank game I was in im rank 111 right now.

Can you make some more videos with you fighting larger groups?

Personally I hate phantasm builds because you get so much out of them without doing much. You seem to just kite and let phantasms do all the work. The shatter builds would be viable but they just have one problem. Phantasm mesmers do so much more damage than any other type of mesmer and survive too well. For this reason, shatter mesmers are forsaken because they require more user skill.
