Predicitions on Skill Bar for Mesmer

Hmz, I think I’ll grudgingly give them a slow clap for finally …[redacted]
I look forward to see the third attempt in fixing iWarden.
Make WvW Eventful! – WvW, 4 years in
Yes, I have 5 lv 80 mesmers – Funny Puns
I have a feeling they’re going to revamp iWarden and say “due to technical limitations, we’ve reworked iWarden…”
I would love to see a focus rework in general. IMO it is the single worst weapon we have.
Aside from mind stab I don’t think we’re going to get much. Anet and Mesmer players just aren’t on the same page with where they believe Mesmer is at.
Mellowpuff [Champion Hunter]
I hope they’ll rework Mimic and buff Arcane Thievery.
I just hope our illusions can jump and dodge..
They’ll re-introduce their proposed nerf to deceptive evasion but we’ll not have a chance to rebuttal this time because the skill bar segment for mesmer will be the last one before the patch.
iSwordsman will be broken.

Patch Notes:
Mesmer
Fixed a bug causing the clone generated by Illusionary Leap to travel too quickly.
To improve build diversity, we are removing Empowering Mantras, Prismatic Understanding, and moving Warden’s Feedback to be a Grandmaster (swapping with Disruptor’s Sustainment). As of yet, we have not found any replacement for the two removed traits. If we ever decide to release new traits in these slots, all players, legacy or not, will have to unlock them again.
Illusionist’s Celerity will now only affect Utility Skills, so it does not improperly stack with traited weapons.
Phantasmal Warden’s will now reflect projectiles. Traiting Warden’s Feedback will cause them to not reflect projectiles.
Fixed Mind Slash chain. Was improperly removing boons, applying vulnerability, and dealing bonus damage to targets without boons.
To improve build diversity, the way traits provide stats has been changed.
Dueling will now provide Condition Damage instead of Precision.
Illusions will now grant Boon Duration instead of Condition Damage
Chaos will now grant Power instead of Boon Duration.
Domination will now grant Healing Power instead of Power.
Inspiration will now grant Precision instead of Healing Power.
Fixed a bug where Critical Infusion was giving Mesmers Vigor.
Fixed a bug where Sharper Images was being activated by Illusions.
Compounding Power now gives increased boon duration for each active illusion, up to a maximum of 1%.
Phantasmal Haste is being swapped with Maim the Disillusioned. We feel that this will provide build diversity and allow more players to trait Maim the Disillusioned.
Removed Torment from Maim the Disillusioned.
Illusionary Persona also kills the player, as they are being shattered. This makes more sense, thematically.
Imbued Diversion’s Radius is too large, reduced to 0.
Bountiful Interruption also applies Chilled to the Mesmer whenever an enemy is interrupted.
Improved Furious Interruption’s activation chance to 50% from 100%.
Harmonious Mantras isn’t used enough, all Mantras are now reduced to 1 charge.
Deceptive Evasion now spawns a clone only when no clones are alive. This trait now works while out of combat.
Desperate Decoy now casts Mimic instead of Decoy.
Desperate Decoy renamed to Desperate Mime.
Mimic no longer reflects missiles.
Blade Training no longer reduces the recharge on sword skills.
Blurred Frenzy has had it’s cooldown increased to 20s.
Blurred Frenzy has half cooldown if nothing is evaded.
Arcane Thievery is blockable now.
Phantasmal Fury now affects Clones.
Phantasmal Fury no longer affects Phantasms.
Empowered Illusions no longer affects Phantasms.
Mental Torment now also applies Torment to the Mesmer.
Mender’s Purity now applies to Phantasmal Defender and Phantasmal Disenchanter.
Mender’s Purity no longer affects healing skills.
Medic’s Feedback now casts Temporal Curtain on the Mesmer.
Medic’s Feedback no longer casts Feedback.
Medic’s Feedback has been renamed to Medic’s Curtain.
Signet of the Ether has been changed to no longer apply a passive heal.
Time Warp has been removed from the game.
Portal Entre has been removed from the game.
Portal Exeunte has been changed to an Elite Skill.
Feedback no longer spawns on a target.
Veil now applies 2s Protection for allies.
Veil no longer applies Stealth.
Illusion of Life has been permanently been placed on all Mesmer skill bars.
We truly believe these changes will help improve diversity amongst builds and help improve Mesmer’s in all modes of gameplay. It will also, healthily, improve Mesmer play.
If I had to take a guess… based on like 0 evidence…
-An explanation that mesmers are “in a good place” while wanting to “increase support options” and “group utility” without overhauling the class.
-Some words about bug fixes with one or two actually fixed, but a few new things broken. Warden fixed but not always, iLeap still broken.
-More chat about emphasizing the “support” role for mesmers followed by a small boost to a healing trait or two… probably an extra condi cleanse on shatter and a boost to the heal-on-shatter trait, making them ok on paper but still weak in practice.
-Mantras not being used enough and still feeling awkward, so 1/4s cast time removed from them.
-A nod to scepter being under-used. A fix to the auto-attack so it casts faster and isn’t dependent on the first bolt hitting the target (is this still happening?) plus a slightly faster wind-up on scepter 3.
-Mind stab (GS 3) doesn’t lock you in place as long to increase mobility.
I’d still think that condition builds won’t be addressed at all, maybe they’ll be mentioned as something they’re “looking in to as part of a future plan to overhaul the condition system”. Build diversity will be mentioned, but after the patch settles down, shatter and PU will still be run on about 90% of the Mesmers. Generally, the end effect will be a quality of life improvement for people running niche builds but still no real alternatives to shatter/PU in most forms of play.
I hope they’ll rework Mimic and buff Arcane Thievery.
Yeah they said they would rework that ages ago. I guess it fell through the crack and probably got eaten by Mord.
Kelthien, you bring up good points. They’ll probably just state that Mesmers are in a good spot and that they will continue doing small bug fixes while improving build diversity.
Jump to actual patch notes:
We get some skill fact updates and trait changes that remove diversity.
Most skills that get affected will harm Mesmer gameplay.

Well, looking at the last patch, I hope it’s just the silence before the storm and we’ll actually get buffs and “real” fixes. I mean, rangers and engineers got love too…
So far I’m quite happy what they did with Rangers and Engineers. Therefore, I’m carefully optimistic they will have something nice for us Mesmers, too. However, even then, I’m pretty sure many people will be disappointed because they won’t cover every shortcomming there is.
I see one issue, though. Mesmers got many problems which can’t be fixed by small tweaks. They require a complete redesign (traits, weapon skills) or reallocation of traits. While the shown changes have been overall smart they also are very simple. Keyword: Low hanging fruits. More importantly, they probably won’t be able to get rid of all the major bugs which hold Mesmers back. Changes won’t matter much if the bugs won’t get fixed. But let’s stay positive.
hate to say it, but, while i dont main a mesmer or engineer, the notes from the stream about the changes they wanted to tell us about dont seem dramatic… like at all..
ranger doesn’t look like its getting any game changers, its still a class bound to its pet and handicapped for damage.
Engi’s new heal is getting a buff and their overtly annoying ability to CC the kitten out of anything that lacks a 20s stability is still left entirely intact.
I dont see anything meta shaking so far for PvE or WvW or sPvP and my hopes arent high that we will until maybe 2016? 2020 at the latest…’
As for what mesmers will get… Maybe some promised bug fixes that won’t show up or need atleast 5 to 7 patches to actually take effect and make it into the game… a handful of new bugs, a return of some old bugs, a sorry from anet 2 months later
oh and maybe a nerf to PU to bring its effectiveness back into line with the rest of the class.
What i don’t expect and will be mildly surprised if it pops up, a proposed rework of the class and its mechanics and an admittance to kittening up creating a class so tied up in half baked AI and balanced only for 1v1 combat.
and…
I retain the ability to edit this post tomorrow when I am less drunk and grumpy..
“Gw2, It’s still on the Table!” – Anet
Looks like we have to wait..
“Also, be sure to stay tuned until the end of the show for another installment of the Skill Bar with Karl McLain where he will be covering upcoming balance changes to the warrior and thief professions.”

And it’ll appear as fixed in the patch notes 5 times before just not being shown at all and ignored until it re-appears a few months later in a patch note, still unfixed.
- Fixed a bug that caused Phantasmal Defender to have higher health than other phantasms.
- Increased vertical restriction to Portal. Max vertical range is now 300.
- Illusionary Persona now shatters the Mesmer, causing them to go into the defeated state and bypass the downed state.
- Prismatic Understanding now works under the effect of Decoy only.
- Fixed a bug that caused Decoy to activate without a target.
- Corrected the tool tip for Phantasmal Warden; Summons an Illusionary warden that has a chance to activate the attack. [We thought this would match with the Profession characteristic of randomness and misdirection]
-Fixed a bug that caused Phase Retreat to activate without a target.
- Reduced blink to 600 range.
- Illusionary counter now causes 2 seconds of burning instead of Torment.
- Fixed a bug that caused staff clones to cause conditions.
- Fixed a bug that caused Phantasmal Berserker to deal high damage. Floater issue is now working properly.
- Distortion now evades instead of causing invulnerability.
- Lowered Mind Wrack damage by 15%.
- Polymorph Moa has been removed from the game. We have replaced this skill with Polymorph Mesmer: Target turns into a Mesmer and feels the pain of having a Mesmer as their main. Target also received an aura that resembles bugs crawling on their body and their skill icons.

Nooooo don’t give them ideas!
But really I hope it’s something good.
I kinda hope they buff stuff we don’t use. I wanna see some awesome new builds that are viable in PVE and PVP/WWW.
(edited by Kirito.9207)
I think Decoy will be changed to be impacted by Revealed. (Let’s face it, every one of us had a “Wait, what?” moment when we learned that it didn’t.) It might be buffed in some other fashion to keep it desirable, but that small change would knock down PU just a little bit in this new Revealed meta they seem to be slowly rolling out.
As far as buffs… okay, pretending for a second I’m not totally cynical right now? I did one super rambly post here. Besides that, in general I predict more illusion-protecting options, hopefully in the realm of straight damage reduction instead of health. I could see our block chain skills getting buffed or changed, maybe mantra AoE increased – hell, maybe make them all AoE. (Traited MoP in zerg for healbot tagging! Sure!)
For some reason, in all of that rambly post I made, I do feel oddly strongly that we’ll get easier access to DE since this balance pass seems to be about bringing up builds that don’t get used. There are so many grandmaster traits we neglect purely because DE and IP work well together… it would have a great and logical home as an Illusions Master trait, but even just Dueling Adept would open up so much for us.
And uh… I’ll stop here before I get rambly again, yeah.
I forgot 2 more things to my update list above :
- Deceptive Evasion and Triumphant Distortion have now switched trait spots. Deceptive Evasion is now Grandmaster. Added an internal cool down of 30 seconds per clone.
- Triumphant Distortion now evades instead of causing invulnerability. Reduced Distortion time to 1 second.

This post had me in a fit of laughter. Omg, too much. My hat is off to you, sir.
Fixed a bug where skilled players could still make Mesmer somewhat viable; now whenever entering a thieves LoS, the Mesmer will instantly downstate.
Mellowpuff [Champion Hunter]
- Illusionary Persona now shatters the Mesmer, causing them to go into the defeated state and bypass the downed state.
omfg lol, good one. Also Esplen had some good ones too. Very funny. The laughter of the kitten ed…
Let me try:
-Phase retreat now ports you to the nearest melee enemy instead of away.
-Illusionary leap now causes you to swap places with your clone and immobilize yourself.
-The downed state skill Deception now causes you to enter stealth and die. “We’ve received a lot of complaints about Deception not really fooling anyone, so we thought this was a great way to let Mesmer’s be masters of misdirection and respond to your feedback. Now when downed by an enemy Mesmers can kill themselves, misleading their foes who search in confusion for a downed Mesmer to stomp. Jokes on them; you’re already dead!”

“Phantasmal Haste is being swapped with Maim the Disillusioned. We feel that this will provide build diversity and allow more players to trait Maim the Disillusioned.
Removed Torment from Maim the Disillusioned.”
i fukken lost it
but no really i hope it’s not just mind stab getting changed; in all honesty i hope somehow they rework confusion to be like, “x damage on hit,” instead of skill use, which would not only be a general buff in pvp/pve but it’ll make classes think twice about using skills that hit multiple times in one skill use (pp thieves/hundred blades/bouncing attacks/etc.)
i’m even down for having that effect and the damage per hit slightly reduced so it’s not uber op.
would anybody think this would be an improvement?
- Fixed a bug that gave Mesmers Phantasms.
- Increased Phantasm damage by 25%. “In keeping with class diversity, Engineers have been given the ability to summon Phantasms, called Mesmer’s Lament.”
- Fixed the issue with the debuff Confusion. Mesmers will no longer be able to cast it.
- Fixed a bug that allowed players to exploit the parameters of the class through creating shatter builds, phantasm builds, or any other build other than portal/veil lackey.
- Clones removed from game.
- Fixed a bug where Mesmers could dps. “In keeping with class diversity, we feel the Mesmer should be a support role only.”
- All previous nerfs on Mesmers have been removed.
- Removed Mesmer from game. “In retrospect, since anything a Mesmer can do can be accomplished better in other classes, we have decided to remove the Mesmer class, and give Elementalists the abilities of Portal and Veil.”

Sorry about my pessimism, I’m very excited about the Mesmer Ready Up which is actually making me very sad because I know I’m going to get disappointed. I just can’t help getting my hopes up, even though I know they’ll be F1’ed before the update patch.
Get it… my hopes will get shattered before the update? Okay, I’ll go back to work now…

Now I finally understood the whole world.
We’re not getting buffs because someone at Anet is having trouble typing. He always wants to tell his mates “We can only save the mesmers by buffing them.” sadly the only things sadly he misses the [F] and types [G] instead so we result in: “We can only save the mesmers by bugging them.”

I just want a fix for iCharge to be what it should be->iLeap.
Seriously though,if anet gonna nerf us again, ima gonna quit the game.

Had the effect where iLeap did the iHop. I even stood back and waited for the clone before realizing he wasn’t going anywhere. I proceeded to walk forwards and passed the clone as he kept getting stuck on the hills.

Really on a serious note, this idea is not that bad. Maybe it could be a % of the damage that skill does, this way it will be easy to balance. They should also leave how fast we can stacked and make it more difficult for engi to stack or just remove it.
IP, after shattering, for the next 5 sec, anybody that hit you is affected by confusion and torment for the duration of the effect on you. so you could the following
5sec cd effect on mez— 5sec of condition on duration
4sec cd effect on mez— 4sec of condition on duration
3sec cd effect on mez— 3sec of condition on duration
2sec cd effect on mez— 2sec of condition on duration
1sec cd effect on mez— 1sec of condition on duration
Signet Mastery: remove reduce cd, but increase the duration by 2 sec of each signet effects
Protected Mantra: while casting recasting mantra, if struck, you cast fear on the assailant for 1 sec duration.
That would be both an underwhelming nerf and overwhelming buff at the same time.
Signet of Midnight: 2 seconds more Blind, wooooooo…
Signet of the Ether: Doesn’t get cooldown reduce, wooooooo…
Signet of Illusions: Doesn’t get cooldown reduce, wooooooo…
Signet of Inspiration: Doesn’t get cooldown reduce, wooooooo…
And the one buff:
Signet of Domination: Changes from 3s stun to 5s stun. If opponent has no defiance or stunbreaks, this is ridiculous.
So… no thank you.
And yes, the three Signets I listed with “no cooldown reduce” wouldn’t benefit from 2s bonus duration because their effects are not tied to having their own durations in any way.
Illusionary Persona also kills the player, as they are being shattered. This makes more sense, thematically.
rotf can’t stop cry-laughing xD

I just wanna say PU power or condition will most likely never change it’s one of the 2 GM related to boon, so far the main defense system used my mesmers(AKA toughness trait line) vs players(since the skill bars seem to be aimed vs players AKA not personally you),with lesser access to stealth and burst than thief very unlikely to being change, countered by corruption, boon stealing/reaping,condition users, ranged dps(not getting hit with the build set-up).
The game doesn’t revolve around burst(power) vs players,is not balanced 1v1 and lastly improved AI,casting time and animations are the only sure thing to happen.
