Okay, Here’s my take on the PU builds/whine threads.

Since I am so inlove with the concept of interrupts I decided to make a build centered around it and at the same time trait it with PU to give people another perspective on this trait.

Cons:

No DE. Mainly A phantasm build.
Extremely Squishy (all zerk)
Stun is RNG.
No Boon Strip.

Pros:

High Damage.
Stuns.
Survivabilty Via the PU trait.

Okay. Here goes.

So basically a mashup between Mind Crush and Pyro’s Overpowered Phantasm build.
You deal majority of your damage with Phantasm, making them stronger with interrupts.

Rune:

Rune of The mesmer. For str and prec stats + that 33% daze duration

Sigils:

Battle for might
Impact for More damage when stunned or knockdown (10%) – Im not really sure if this affects phants but It would seem it does.

Amy.

Zerk or Assassin.

If taking assassin Im getting Desperate Decoy for that extra stealth or Blade Training.
if Zerk Im taking phantasmal fury or Blade training

Traits:

Empowered illusions – For phantasms
Halting Strike – Additional Damage for Interrupts
Confounding Suggestions – Stun

Illusionary Defense – Defense
Bountiful Interruption – Boons
PU – Defense

Phant Fury, Blade Training, or Desperate Decoy.

Now, I am a great GS fan, I love the phantasm but It has no synergy with CS, so is staff a better choice.

Same goes for SW OH, I am a pistol fan, but sword has that daze and quick attacking phant.

I am also torn in getting torch, the stealth is amazing (with PU too) but the phantasm is kitten.

So what you guys think?

PS: this build is not effective as Pyro Phantasm build because it does not utilize two CD traits to maximize phantasm uptime.

and not as effective as CS because it lacks DE and Boon Strip

I just made the build to have some fun and get a new playstyle aside from the norms

Also, When I play I usually do not run any cleanse, feel free to swap anything for a cleanse

I suggest anyone to play it, because this my first time using PU and I think I die a lot often. haha

Hello. Looks like something I tried running in wvw. Only difference is I chose to use pu more than rupts. So switched staff for sword/torch both are defensive type weapon set just melds with pu better. I also switched halting strike for gs cooldowns since mirror blade up close hurts and faster recharge time on all skills. Was fun like you mentioned a change of pace.

I’ve been playing some similar concepts for quite a while. You’re definitely doing some different things with your build, but I really try to get interruptions when playing my build.

I’m trying for might and vulnerability from the interrupts instead of direct damage. This is a might-stacking video (with a couple of small gear differences)

And this is a video where I look at vulnerability stacking with the same basic build

Sigil of impact seems like such a wasted choice for sigils given that so much of your damage is going to come from phants, and your stuns aren’t tied to them. You can AA of course but for a Mesmer that’s rarly the case. Even take OH sword 4’s riposte damage, you’re not going to be riposting anything vs a stunned inactive opponent :/. BF is a 2.5 second attack with a half second windup. That leaves no time to deal damage during a 1s RNG stun

300+ views and only 3 feedback? Cmon people. BUMP

@Ross
Great point, just the clarification i needed. So I’m swapping it to energy.

How bout the weapon sets?

Torch is pretty good with PU.
Pistol?
GS?

Torch is good for PU, but I think you need to switch gears on this build a little, at least for tpvp.

So your thread inspired me but I took it in a different direction. I forwent PU but kept the playstyle/consept in mind, which was to utilize phantasms for damage and hide in stealth. Though not hide in stealth like PU does, rather use it for that crucial moments misdirections to allow me to unload damage/pressure.

I wanted to get pistol in there alongside swordsman to get that solid phant/interrupt pressure. Because of this I also took scepter. The block is handy, and with interrupts/stuns you can easily get the entire scepter 3 chain off to stack up the damage. The tracking against thieves is also an added bonus, and this mesmer build really makes thieves suffer. Finally for sigils I went a straight out fire/air on both sets. It’s just damage/burst on top of damage/burst. For runes I took Air (first time ive ever run it). Normally the lightning bolt on hit interferes with stealth, but since Im not using stealth in the way I would with PU, it’s not so important. What is important is all those lightning strikes, flame blasts, phants, and interrupt damage knocking the enemy to the ground. Maybe there’s a better choice, but this is definitely up there.

I took a vid. I should have taken a few more as my following matches had even better success as I got a handle on the build so I’ll try to get some more and load them up.

To answer your question directly though, if you do go with PU I would only take torch in WvW. Because of the nature of the spvp game, pistol will give you much needed pressure and a solid interrupt/stun. You don’t want to be in stealth forever if it’s the difference between them getting downed and not.

Hello my old friend! Sorry I couldn’t test things out last night. I was on a long winning streak and felt too exhausted to continue playing when you whispered me. #Hairflip #TopPlayerProbs #SlightSarcasm #EmphasisOnSlight

The concept is VERY interesting. Right off the bat from looking at the build on paper, here are some suggestions/questions:

  • Get rid of those silly stun sigils. You only have 1s to actually do 10%+ dmg, and unless iSwordsman just happens to be going for the jugular at that exact time, you won’t get much use out of them. Replace with either energy, doom, hydromancy or generosity.
  • How useful is PU really in a build like this? I assume you’d only use Decoy/MI for defensive purposes like needing to recharge MoD or when you’re getting super low in health?
  • With Decoy and MI being on high CDs, it’s important to put on as much offensive pressure as possible before you need to use them.
  • Because you’re using BI, I feel as though Staff is a must due to the high chance of proccing it several times. However, Sword/Sword Scepter/Pistol is a nice combo considering it focuses more on single-target dmg which is the strength of a post-bugged CS build (remember when Chaos Storm used to REKT?).

Come on friend, you need to sell me on this build and how it works. Using PU forces you to water down the strength & and occurrence of your phantasms/illusions. In my experience of theory-crafting, CI Phantasm builds are typically most effective as 6/6/0/2/0 or 6/4/0/0/4 with some wiggle room for 2-3 points in both varieties.

It sounds so interesting though that I want it to be magical!
