Haven’t played in quite a while, my main has always been a mesmer and I enjoyed it a great deal, thinking of coming back.

I used Lazy Kai’s build when I played, basically it’s Greatsword and Sword/Focus; Greatsword relies on the iBerserker and shatters to do damage, and Sword/Focus is for the runspeed buff, and for close-up stuff.

I enjoyed the build because it’s given me a very nice “battlemage” like feel (mostly at range, but can take care of itself up close). I think I did OK in dungeons too.

My question is, can I get by with Lazy Kai’s build these days? I mostly play PvE (explore, quest and whatnot), sometimes do dungeons and once in a blue moon go to the Great Big PvP Zerg.

All opinions appreciated.

Yep, still by far the best leveling and open world build.

If you’re taking this build for dungeons/fractals you’re it doing it wrong.

Nice for open world and leveling, pretty trash for dungeons.

I still run this build. It works well for standard PvE and events. I still have a ball with it! Have never taken it to a dungeon or fractal, however, as I don’t play those.

Is there a way for a PvE mesmer to strike a balance between a fun and powerful open world experience and dungeon utility? I spend more time in open world than I do in dungeons, but when I do run dungeons, I hate being dead weight.

Just retrait to something like 10 (III)/20 (II,IV) /0/25(II, VIII)/15 (III?) or 10/30/0/30/0 for dungeons.

These phantasm builds are great for dungeons, but less good in the open world where your aren’t focusing a single target.

You could easily take the 10/30/0/20/10 build and modify it to be similar to Lazy Kai for open world (putting the shatter spec in domination, deceptive evasion in dueling, etc.).

Wow, wait there.

You missed the point of the build. It is to double trait the GS to have a very high clone output and a fast iZerker while containing utility and IP to do damage.

10/30/0/20/10 has non of that.

I am really happy, that my build is still popular and to be honest, I still use it myself.

If you just want to run a dungeon without min/maxing or needing reflections, you can simply switch to Lazy Kai’s Phantastic Phantasm build. In most cases it will be good enough for what you encounter.
