PvE Dungeons Illusion Build
Hi there Aron. For a more in-depth look at what I’m about to tell you, read through this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-PvE-Dungeons-Phantasm-build-s/first#post2884450
In general, a phantasm build is the classic berserker build for PvE. Your build looks pretty decent. You’ll want to have at least 1 more sword and a focus with you at all times. Remember to be very flexible with the traiting in your inspiration line, your weapon choices, and your utility choices. Change them up to best suit the encounter you’re in. Also, don’t take compounding celerity for team PvE. You would be better served with mender’s purity, if nothing else.
Your traits look pretty decent. You may want to consider taking 5 out of dueling and putting them into illusions for illusionist’s celerity.
Scholar runes are not as good on mesmers are they are on other classes. Since % damage boosts such as the one on scholar do not affect phantasm damage, the vast majority of your dps won’t be affected by the runes. Straight ruby orbs would be a better choice, or a normal damage oriented rune set such as divinity or air.
So ruby orbs on armor set would be a better choice, got it.
I tried to sacrifice all the points I had on Illusions in order to maximize Inspiration and improve Domination and Dueling a bitò I think this might be a better option. What do you think?
Take 10 points out in domination and stick them in dueling for blade training, and run glamour mastery, warden’s feedback and maybe persisting images in inspiration.
Warden’s feedback is pretty much the only reason to go in to inspiration when talking about dungeon builds.

Persisting images actually is a really big difference now. It boosts based on the base hp of the phantasms, and so since the PvE hp was increased by 270%, it also boosts 270% more. Since normal phantasms have 7700 base PvE hp now, persisting images provides a boost of 1500 hp. On the iDefender, if you use it, with 19000 base hp, that 20% hp boost is about 4k.
Well, the basic phant bunker build is
10/15/0/25/0 + 20
You pretty much follow this concept. Alot mesmers of this kind are getting the GS trait as well, but … I think you should try to get along with the focus. Its pull, swiftness and phantasm works wonders. As colesy said, its reflect is pretty much necessary. Getting rid of the pistol would also give you the option to get the sword trait.
You also chose Inspiration XI for cleansening on shatter, but a phant build “doesn’t” shatter. You can freely choose another trait there, since the inspiration line has the most generic helping traits.
@Pyro
I usually run Inspiration IV (clean on heal), X (Mantra heal) and VIII (focus), so I don’t have the slots for persisting images. And even on most other situations, I barely ever use it.
Apart from traits, I’m really wondering what sigils I could use. I’ve seen classic sigils of force as AoE sigils of fire. These last ones are good imo, what would you choose?
Battle in off-hands and either perception or bloodlust mainhand.
Fire is just bad because you’re relying on a lucky proc, it doesn’t proc on phantasm crits (I think) and you’ll get more damage out of 250+ power/precision and the might from battle sigils since it’ll buff yourself and your phantasms.
Well, the basic phant bunker build is
10/15/0/25/0 + 20
What? Phantasm … bunker? PvE?
The only reason you’d ever want to bunker in PvE is because you either like pretending to hold a certain role or you’re ignorant on combat and/or your class mechanics.

That’s the most constructive thing I could come up with.

Phantasms do inherit your power/ prec and not “on crit” or “+ x% dmg”, indeed.
There’re alot viable sigils for mesmers. Just remember which do not work with phants.

Well, imo “phant bunker” means that you summon your phants and “hide” behind them. Not turning your back to the enemy.
But if you prefer to name it differently, call it “70% phant damage”.

Pyro explained why he likes the Phant HP trait and I just replied that the Inspiration line has so many good traits, that I barely ever use that one. Especially since RestMantras pretty much necessary for my build is.

No semi-competent mesmer is going to hide behind their phantasms in PvE.

Well, I use the iDefender at FotM against that poison golem :P Or “Mr. op shotgun” at Caudecus’ Works pretty well, but clones will allways be better sacrifices. But in the end – better a phantasm than you. IF you can’t dodge anymore, all blocks are gone and you got <50% HP left. If :P

Actually, any competent mesmer/player will hide behind/in an iWarden (staying within melee range, of course) in a reflect heavy area while it’s attacking.

Attacking next to your warden isn’t really hiding.

Hrmm, I dunno, I would call it hiding as you are letting him protect you? Maybe I don’t do enough PvP (just enough for Map completion ^_-) to understand what is meant by hiding.

colesy thinks that “bunker” means you use that one skill of your weapon which calls a phantasm, then disable autoattack and continuously run behind your phant. So that and ranged attack needs to kill your summon before reaching you. And you set your summon skill practially to autoattack without pressing any non-movement abilities.
I’m stille a bit confused about sigils.
Do you know if sigil of force and accuracy apply to phantasms?
Both sigils of force and accuracy do not apply to phantasms.

kitten it. At this point I have no idea about sigils.
