Anybody for or against Signet of Inspiration always applying Swiftness while out of combat in PvE?
Always swiftness would be too much, but a constant 25% speedboost would be very welcome (the idea is as old as the 25% speed utility skills of other classes though)…
Swiftness or Aegis randomly would be nice. Keeps a bit of the random character, is not 100% swiftness uptime (which would make it stronger than all the other classes’ speed signets), and Aegis is actually useful when running around since it prevents you from getting in combat when something hits you.
So really what we’re looking for is some exploration mobility on the Mesmer, because the best way of achieving it right now is Centaur Runes with Mantra of Recovery.
Your ignoring Runes of the Traveler, a very nice rune set to be honest that gives perma-swift, which is awesome. Also, in playing the engineer and having the advantage of speedy kits its stupid easy to have perma swift with a few trait points invested. Honetly, considering every other class can fairly easily speck for swiftness perma in some form or another, giving it to us out of combat via SoI is hardly asking too much(yes I am looking at you Kaiyanwan).

Well. They don’t give perma-swiftness, they give permanent 25% increased movement-speed. Also, they cost 10 gold each.
Of course there are also runes of speed, but they are a really defensive option.
A permanent increase in movement speed can be argued to be better than perma-swift since you can’t remove the effect. I already had Runes of the Traveler back from when they were cheap, so the cost was very low for me. Were you trying to show its too difficult to get good runes so we should get SoI adjusted, or that Runes of the Traveler along with speed runes don’t count, which would also support the argument that we should have SoI made into an out-of-combat speed buff? Just trying to get some clarity on the point Saturn.
I feel our speed is fine. But if they were going to do something, I would rather them just add a movement speed signet. There not going to give anyone a 33% movement signet, unless they gave it to everyone. And some people’s builds use SoI in it’s current form, and they shouldn’t have to respect just because others want speed.
As for the engineer mentioned above, it’s not like you put points in speedy kits, and then kapow instant swiftness for ever. You need to spend 10 trait points in place you might not have wanted. Then you need to have a kit in a utility spot, and then you need to spam it every 10-15 seconds. I still love it, especially now that the swiftness is buffed, but its not a freebie.

I just wanted to say that it’s NOT perma-swiftness. Not argue about which is better. Also, it’s fine if the traveler runes were really cheap for you. But for everyone buying them now, they’re not. I’ve never said they don’t count; I just said that many people simply can’t afford to pay 70 gold (6 armor-pieces + aqua breather) just to get what others get much easier. As it is now, centaur runes are still the best option for Mesmers to get around quickly.

I can almost guarantee you that nobody really uses SoI for its passive effect. The active is what it’s all about. Nobody would have to respec if they would change the passive effect to make us a bit faster, even if it would just be out of combat.
Just flip a few mats or run a few dungeons and buy your traveller runes. You won’t regret it.
I agree that the problem is that they reduce build diversity, but until then just buy a set.
Personally, i’d like to see a little less emphasis on the #6 rune-set skill, becauae right now that skill is often powerful enough to discourage mixing runes. I’d love to see anet find ways to encourage mixed sets to increase diversity.
“Just flip a few mats”… yeah, and possibly (or: probably) lose more money than I make. Don’t misunderstand me… I COULD buy them. Many people can’t. But I just like centaur runes so much more; they are way better imo. And spending 70 gold on a set of runes just to get 25% increased movement speed would seriously be bugging me even if I would own like 5k gold or so.
Centaur runes. <3
