PvE/WvW Armor. Zerker vs Knight vs Valkyrie
I use Zerker armor with Dolyak runes, half Knights & half Celestial trinkets, and one Knights weapon & one Valkyrie.
Is there a good balance between offense and defense?
Good balance? That’s personal preference. Some prefer more damage, some prefer more survivability. Your idea of “balance” probably isnt the same as mine.
My “balanced” WvW non-condition survival build has roughly the following stats as a guideline:
1800 power
1500 precision
2000 toughness
1500 vitality
~50% crit damage
When randomly roaming I run with my PvE armor, which goes down to roughly 1600 toughness while boosting precision, crit damage and magic find.
But really, the success in combat depends just as much on who you meet and what build they use. I’ve met a single thief that owned me so hard and I’ve met two theives that I lolled at while loosing no HP at all to their silly daggerstorms. Like killing babies.
There is little balance in random encounters no matter what build you use.
Depends manly on what are you going to do.
Given that you’re using a power spec (because if you use condition spec you’ll want cond dmg – oh rly? /cptobvious – thus narrowing the options), the main difference is if you’re roaming or zerging.
While roaming you can run almost whatever you want. From full zerk to full tank. Build/playstyle/skill are what you should tailor your stat choice on.
If you’re zerging, it’s a different matter. In large group fights you MUST be tanky. Knight/Valk is the bare minimum – and Soldier would be better.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.

I run Knights gear with valkryie orbs, and I feel like I’m missing out without a rune set.
