My buddy just rolled his first toon, a Warrior, and I’m wandering with him throughout Tyria, leveling my Mesmer as he levels his Warrior. What sort of build(s) are fun and helpful and synergize well with his class? Pure damage is nice and all but I’d like to play support like with mantras or boon sharing or something. Ideas?

PS – I’m level 60, he’s 14

Check out the Chaos Maestro or my Paladin builds in the build sticky. Due to the trait spread you’re not going to do as much damage as a meta PvE build but you can still gear zerker and do decent damage while providing decent support.

Actually zerker is the way to go. just make sure that you change your utilities for your warrior, means, condi cleanse, stability, feedback, just what is required. There is no direct synergy with the warrior, you simply support him like any other class.

Start with 20 in inspiration and 10 in dueling for phantasmal fury, glamour mastery and warden’s feedback. The best ways for you to help him are with mob positioning, projectile reflection and raw DPS. Also, you can use mantra of resolve for condition cleansing (it’s amazing).

Good places to stick more points after that is an extra 5 in dueling for sharper images (phantasmal warden and duelist proc these nicely) and an extra 5 in inspiration for a 15% phantasm damage modifier. At that point you’ll be 0/15/0/25/0 at which you have a number of options:

10 in domination for the second phantasm damage modifier, an extra 15 in dueling for blade training and empowering mantras or 15 in illusions for illusionist’s celerity.

The key really is to switch utilities to whatever situation is necessary – for example when I run dungeons I’m switching out skills while running from encounter to encounter because certain skills aren’t always relevant. So to give a relevant open world example, you might be killing trash and taking mantra of resolve, feedback and another utility. But then you come across a veteran with hard hitting attacks but no projectile-based attacks. So what you can do is take out feedback for the mantra that dazes targets and then cast that just as it starts to wind up one of its attacks. That way your warrior friend can DPS away at it without eating hits. You can even have off-hand pistol for the magic bullet daze which is pretty great too, as long as you time them well (which requires coming familiar with mob mechanics).
