Then you have to duel me with a 100.3 fever. Anyway lets not derail the thread anymore, we can settle this in game

Sure you need to time your stuff, but with lockdown you need to pay twice as much attention because you are timing your own dmg, paying attention to everything they are doing, AND trying to distinguish what are the key abilities to interrupt.

So your base level of attention and awareness has to be higher, and on top of that your reflex level knowledge of other classes has to be pretty complete.

This for me is the real challenge, it’s just that much more time to not only master my own class, but I kind of need to know every other class pretty well in order to lockdown truly well. Or I can go shatter and just yolo burst as warlord said (lol).

All the stuff you said you need to pay attention to w/ lockdown…you STILL should do this as a $hatter mesmer. You still need to know other classes and builds and animations. Just because YOU play shatter sloppily does not mean others do.

You cut off the first sentence in that post where I said “I know for the top players this isn’t true…”. If you’re going to aggressively respond that way at least read my whole post before you stress out. Yes, in my first sentence I explicitly acknowledged that there are some very good players who are just as aware as anyone and choose to play shatter.

My point was that for many (but not YOU of course, or anyone else as good as you ) in the more average skills zone (like myself) what I said is true, that they can go shatter jump in and perform pretty well, but be unable to do so as easily with lockdown and I think a big reason is the increased awareness required.

I posted this to add to the discussion as to why maybe we don’t see lockdown more among the whole player base. Maybe if someone were interested in making (another) guide or vid, they would, if they agree with me, take some extra time to go over this point well and maybe it will help people. Just trying to be constructive.

[…] I think a big reason is the increased awareness required.

One thing I consider about any build on whether it’s good or not, at least for me, is its demand for situational awareness. I come from gw1 days in which my main was a cripshot ranger. It focused on landing critical interrupts, stopping or assisting spikes, and spreading degen to the enemy. So you couldn’t just tunnel vision on one target, and you couldn’t spend most of your time spreading pressure around ether (you’ll miss critical interrupts). Long story short, it was the most demanding spec that required a well-developed situational awareness skill (very few could actually play it well). Specs like Lockdown have this in spades. Right now, in common specs, you very visibly see d/d elementalist pull this “stuff” off quite often. Supcutie has commented that denshee “carries” TCG with his ability to read what is going on at any given point of time and respond accurately.

Boom! I think Swish just discovered the new and improved “Furious Interruption” grandmaster trait!!

On the note of Furious Interruption, they need to buff this a bit. Maybe reduce the ICD to 5 seconds so you have, at most, a 60% uptime on it? Or just something more useful than 3 seconds of Quickness or more on demand than a 15 second ICD. Maybe make it group quickness[5 people within 360-600 radius]? Because right now, this is just weak, even before the quickness nerf.

Well for me seems strange to develop a style of play with no cast bars and people so small cannot see anything they are doing. The design if the game doesn’t support lockdown fully IMO why shatter edges it. I know heals ressing and stomping but 3 sure skills is not an interrupt build to spot out of how many others.

Nope, it needs to be exactly what Swish described: causing a 25% chance of interrupting the enemy’s attack when you land a critical hit with an internal cooldown of 15 seconds.

Interestingly enough it’s a lot easier to interrupt than you think. Of course the three you listed are perhaps amongst the most important to do so, and they’re ridiculously easy. Another is elites, such as mass invis or moa morph on a mes. An engie crate drop is relatively easy to spot too, and doing so will completely ruin an engies day.

Casters suffer it the most as they tend to have lengthy channeled skills. They’re also generally squishier than the melee heavies. In opportunistic AoE situations, simple AA attacks will catch an interrupt no matter who you are.

Sadly lockdown builds really do.need a trait like this as much as I hate the amount of back end passive b.s. the game already has. It allows for more sustained interrupting to proc other traits without taking up more utility slots or weapon skills which are already extremely tight and limited for the class.

I would say it shouldn’t even Apply daze or stun just interrupt like when you smack around Pve monsters that are very weak.

This is great advice for all players in every class.
