PvP Shatter Mes is fine.
I saw many mesmers with a shatter build while pvping last night. I encountered a very good mantra chrono shatter mesmer 3-4 times vs my pug teams and wow, if you ever recognize yourself, I’m amazed GG.
I don’t know if they are fine, but I’ll wait for the meta to settle down. Right now, lots of Necros and Thieves.
Mind you i’m only diamond but yeah.
I’m definitely not going to listen to someone who has no clue how the match making system worked last season.

I’ve been playing shatter since last night with no issues.
I’d like to believe Mesmer’s are now warrior tier so i could begin to learn another class but were not.
I solo que’d and didn’t team que so i didn’t abuse the system at all.
I also did read how the system worked on that big reddit post, but i didn’t care how it worked I just wanted to play.

I mean I played mesmer beforehand too, I didn’t just randomly pick it up today. I used it in ranked all the time. Infact I have every class at 80 and I normally only play competitively on 2 or 3, but I do try to PvP with each one every balance patch.

Well my counterargument would maybe be that if you play ranked smallscale PvP in MMOs, you got bigger issues than whether classes are balanced or imbalanced.
If you enjoy team-vs-team PvP, try a MOBA. They focus exclusively on the concept, and are much more honed in that regard. Plus you got a few different basic layouts to choose from, Heroes for a more simplistic but also less time-consuming setup, Smite for third-person, LoL and especially DotA2 for more in-depth play.
But really, no MMO can even compare to a two-digit percent degree with the current top level MOBAs in regards to team-vs-team combat. Which isn’t surprising, these games do that as their one and only game element. While MMOs are about a lot of things, and as much as ANet loves to hype their esports part, sPvP as a whole is a tiny thing in modern MMO development, it’s all casual to invested PvE and to a much much smaller degree PvP play. But even there, most of it is casual or semi-casual. That’s what rolls in the dough, as that is where the players are.
So again, you might not like the idea, but MMORPGs aren’t for people who want deep or focused team-vs-team gameplay on a small scale. They’re just not. Period.

I completely disagree. The group fight in gw2 already feels way better.
The only thing where mobas are better is regarding balance. The balance in mobas is more “honed” because balance is far easier there.
- A champ is OP? Ban or counterpick.
- You have more options to balance. E.g. If a champion is too strong in early game, you can adjust his scaling. If a certain role is too strong, you can adjust the gold cost of an item.
Ofc this is not an excuse why the balance in gw2 is sooo off. I completely agree that bunker mesmer was too strong and needed to get butchered but why didn’t they buff every other aspect of the mesmer at the same time?
The goal should be, that EVERY trait / skill combination is viable. So why are unused traits and utilities not constantly buffed?

You’re literally playing against an armada of people that rerolled into thief and necro, and have no kittening clue what they’re doing on their new profession.
And yet, you’re some how shocked that a burst class is able to kinda/sorta function in an environment flooded with inexperienced players?
In unranked no less?
Give it a week when everyone’s muscle memory catches up with their new class, or the people that got aggravated go back to their mains/quit.
Then go queue unranked, and get absolutely decimated by a thief that actually knows what they’re doing.
Or a necro that actually knows what they’re doing.
Or a scrapper, that actually knows what they’re doing.
Or a glint/shiro rev, that actually knows what they’re doing.
Or a DH/Medi guard, that actually knows what they’re doing.
Or a… you get the point yet?
Mesmer has a slew of bad match-ups against classes that are lined up to be at the top of the meta.
We only beat Druid in a +1, we only beat necro in a +1 with moa, we don’t beat scrapper, period, Glint/Shiro rev should be able to consistently beat us.
Ele is probably a dead profession, as I don’t see how they’ll be able to deal with thief pressure.
Oh, and everyone is so excited to play kittenous condition mesmer, that every single player in this kittening game hates.
And I mean hates!
Cancer Condi Mesmer has been nerfed many times in the past. It’ll be nerfed again, if it’s even viable (It isn’t. Why the kitten would you play it over a reaper right now?)
Bunker mesmer is dead, I can’t find any reason I would ever attempt bunker mesmer over Scrapper atm.
And shatter mesmer, while having high burst combos, is in a state of worthlessness.
Go throw 3-4 volleys of mind wracks into a reaper, and learn what true hell is.
kittenty thing is, that the player base wants to nerf the only thing we actually have to deal with reaper. Namely: Moa.

The counter play is the moa itself. It’s fast, it’s tough, it hurts, and it can apply aoe weakness as a last ditch effort.
Oh, and shatter mesmer can’t 100-0 a moa that’s at least actively dodging.
So moa actually needs to be used in at least a +1 situation to be useful.
Oh, what about double moa? Well, what about a different problem? Now my 90 second cooldown just became 3 minutes of being unable to kill a freaking necro/reaper. Enjoy the freetime.

I will continue to play shatter mesmer as it is what I like. I like portaling back and forth and decimating people while still defending my node. At the end of the day shatter mesmer wasn’t touched that much by the nerfs so I will continue to play it ;o
I also haven’t had an issue with thiefs or scrappers. I do have issues with reapers but thats 1 class.

I’m not even a dedicated engineer.
The only class I actually perform worse on than my main, is Ele.
Now, you tell me. Am I garbage, or are other professions easier and stronger than my main?
I’ll give you a kittening hint.
I literally AFK my brain when playing Engineer.

1. They’re easily avoided. No, seriously. Just 1v1 a mesmer for a bit and realize how easy it is.
2. We have no sustained damage, and therefore no pressure when mind wrack is on cool down.
3. As I’ve mentioned previously, our defensive skills like Blurred Frenzy have an after cast delay that is abuse-able. Every decent thief I’ve fought, has capitalized on blurred frenzy fully casting.
Also, the quickness nerf hurts Chrono Shatter. A lot.

While as a player I agree, I also am aware that this is way beyond unfeasible, given the raw amount of skills, traits and gear setups plus team combinations possible.
I could see the following get balanced:
- Each class has one expected setup of traits, skills and gear-stats, this is the one optimal setup for PvP, and this is the only thing the devs balance sPvP balance for.
- Various combinations, “picks” and “counterpicks” in team setups then combine these classes depending on map, objective and enemy team. (still no 1-to-1 balance, but honestly that balance is so boring I wouldn’t want to play a game featuring it)
- Should another setup for a class arise, specific balance is used to bring it back in line, or if this just so happens to be useful, then the original “intended spec” is nerfed directly or indirectly so the new one becomes the preferred spec for everyone.
In short, each class would be just one effective class. Not 50-100 like now. We’re currently looking at probably >10000 combinations of specs people would realistically consider playing in teams, and everyone has some idea somewhere what is or isn’t balanced.
Even given elite specs as optional, 16 balanced setups is a really tall order. 8 would be easier. But this means people would accept that say a Guardian has one role, one setup, and nothing else. Or a Mesmer. Or anyone really. I don’t think it’d go down well, OTOH anything else is completely utopian.

Win-rate on my engi is 60%
Win-rate on my DH is 47% o_o
I mostly pvp with those classes, my warrior has a 57% win rate aswell. IMO right now im only having issues with reapers.
I mean the nerfs suck, but i still think we are on a competitive level relative to other classes, just not relative to reapers
My experience thus far…
Playing Shatter Mes
- Unranked is full of noobs or people playing their OP elite specs. Though sheer skill I can outplay and kill anything. Only matches are lost since team mates zerg around and have no concept of conquest. It’s impossible to judge viability without playing a serious match.
- LB power rangers +1’ing on me is a pain in the kitten . Mainly because their pets circumvent pro kiting skills and hit for 9 million damage XD
Vs’ing Shatter Mes
- It takes two shatter mes to make up my one berserker. Of course this is unranked still, and you can’t truly judge anything without decent players playing a decent match (even organized premades withstanding). To do the damage, shatter mes is so super squish, and it’s so easy to take them down by slipping in one hard hit.
Conclusion: If teams of players are playing with the presence of an enemy power shatter mes in mind, the mes is going to get caught out and have a really bad time. Ranged pressure makes it super easy to catch a squishy mes out, even on some of the classes basic AA hits. The damage is just so high these days.
unranked play means nothing. I also got to diamond on mostly shatter but bunker mes was by far more effective at higher end solo q .

Noobtown now has a mix of both noobs and ranked players.
