..with 100% more style

Hit a bit of a wall and decided to switch it up. The Meta Condi Chrono build has fallen out of my mind due to the hard counter presence out there now. So by shifting the role dependency of the standard condi chrono build a fraction, off the solo god duelist (dropping inspiration) and onto the tide turning team fighter (taking domination) it’s been a blast crippling all those classes desperately grasping to their boons.

Because of the lack of cleanse, 1v1’ing strong condi classes must be done with caution, and it’s best to stick to +1 fights generally. But pretty much you’ll shut down those condi wars, eles, remove the stability crutch of reapers, negate reapers joyfull passive boon feast etc etc. It’s a little bit more risk (got to play around those condi bombs) for much more reward. It’s not like we can’t negate a ton of crap mid fight anyway.

Hmm… Why Domination over Dueling? You get some additional vulnerability in Domination which is nice, and boon strip which is amazing, but if you’re going to drop Inspiration, I think Dueling will be a better option. Mistrust puts pretty crazy confusion stacks on people, and you can take the Illusions GM trait Ineptitude which, with Blinding Dissipation, has really great synergy… not to mention all that vigor. You might even get away with swapping Staff with Scepter/Pistol and get Duelist’s Discipline if you want something a bit more aggressive.

Anyway, the main problem with this is the lack of condi cleanse, because nearly all of it is frustratingly tied to the Inspiration trait line. I think Power Shatter can sort of get away with this since it can burst enemies before they have a chance to react, but a condition build might have some trouble.

I actually tried dueling before dom, and while those blinds really did make a difference, mistrust wasnt worth it in this setup over the cleanse of dom. In the end the cost wasnt worth the loss of inspirations cleansing.

Dom however is worth the cost simply for the cleanse. Why? Because it’ll strip all relevant boons needed for you and your team to shut much of the meta down. Stability, protection, resistance, being the major three. Without stripping stability, interrupt prowess goes WAY down. So depending on what classes you’re fighting, mistrust can easily fall flat.

The thing is, playing this build is no different than playing power chrono anyway with regards to conditions and cleanse. Because both are on the weak side of cleanse, so it’s back to the good old days of proper positioning and awareness. Good skill use can get you through.

FYI, I started out on my usual scepter/sword sword/shield setup, but swapped scepter out to staff so that I can summon those clones/phants at range and fire them into a fight. Also for the added kite to get out of the way of all that aoe condi spam. Usually I dont favor staff, but in lue of inspiration it made the most sense.

Conclusion: Definitely domination over dueling. By far. But thanks for the thought!

Oh, forgot to say, you can also take CS instead of vuln on shatter. If you have two mes in your team and the other is running portal, that also means you can take MoD, or mantra cleanse in place of portal. That makes setting up bursts super easy (and painful).

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking.

Best answer is: Scrappers.

But either is good.

Sigil of generosity instead of doom? Been my favorite sigil on at least 1 weapon swap (purity+generosity on my DD short bow for example) regardless of what class I play in this meta. Especially with a condi build, you can transfer some bleeds or whatever back at people.

I finally found the build with which I can turn those team fights around in S3!

http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Scrapper_-_Power_Hammer

Not meaning to troll…but…

The league in which this profession plays as compared to the Mesmer in its current state is truly unfathomable until you play it yourself.

I went from a losing streak of 5 games and a constant ping-ponging in Pips and tiers, to a 6 game win streak on a profession I haven’t even played in well over a year. In fact I’ve never played Scrapper before at all in PvP, and I spent maybe an hour testing things out on the test golems before I headed into ranked battle.

Ridiculous sustain with strong damage output and control. In years of playing the Mesmer in sPvP I’ve never broken like 600-700k damage in a match, and in 4 games I already had one with >900k damage on a rather average length match on TSS.

Can’t beat’em, join’em!

The last time I played the Engie was ironically when Mesmer was also almost unplayable/unenjoyable. Now we’re in the same boat again IMO, and as much as it pains me to go FoTM, it’s really what you gotta do to get Anets attention. They messed up Mesmers, plain and simple.

Oh yeah, Scrapper is absurd. I frequently point it out myself on the forums. I laugh when people point out hammer was just nerfed. Really? because they didn’t do a good enough job XD. The other comment I liked was the one saying how Scrapper just plays itself. It’s full autopilot. All you have to do is bring a hammer and spam through your skills while the game plays the rest for you.

Ohwell.
