Guild Wars 2

Title kind of sums up my question, but the basic gist is that I’ve been playing around with some glass cannon builds recently, and am finding that while I have little problem avoiding direct damage, I remain quite susceptible to conditions.

Would the superior runes of melandru (perhaps combined with something like lemmongrass poultry soup) mitigate this problem? Has anyone else played around with this? Is the slight decrease in dmg output worth the added survivability?

I ended up going with melandru runes most of the time in WvW thanks to Pyro’s recommendation (although I’m pretty sure he got the idea from someone else as well, don’t remember who). With the runes and the soup, WvW killers (cripples, etc) become completely insignificant. Damage dealing conditions, with -65% duration, do much the same – I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than two stacks of bleed on me at any given time, since they expire so quickly.

As far as PvE goes, not entirely sure how much of a difference they make – I’m not a PvE kinda guy. ;-)

I find it weird that a food item is better than a full set of 6 superior runes. But the -40% condition damage is.

I’m also using this combo atm, well with ‘bowl of poultry and leek soup’ anyway, costs like 30c instead of 6s for lemongrass soup.
-61/65% cond duration is very good to have.
As said before it makes cripples almost insignificant, but also immobilize is a condition, and don’t forget about fear, a very annoying condition reduced to almost nothing.
This big condition defense allowed me to take less vit and get more power and precision instead
