I’ll keep it short..

I love the Chronomancer’s wells (thought behind it & animation) but I can’t seem to use them to their full extend in sPvP/duels and WvW roaming. I personally thing that the cast time is rather long and my opponent will never get hit by the final burst damage/CC (well of calamity & gravity well). I’ve found that the only way to have a chance at using wells is to keep your enemy in that with a double shield 5, powerblock (+100% chance to inflict stun trait) and a succeful immobalise/f3. Which is incredibly hard to perform even if your opponent does not have any stunbreaker or mobility skills (teleports/blinks/shadowsteps).

Any thoughts on how to use this?

I have had a lot of fun with Well of Action, tossing it on downed enemies and friends! The slow will make enemies ress slower/stomp slower so you easier can interrtupt/Stomp/ress yourself, and the 3 quickness when it goes booms works as a great second wind if your still not done! In general Wells should be tossed at contested points and with a coordinated team, since they require a lot of teamwork to actually make work!

They’re really bad for roaming or any kind of mobile dueling, to be honest. I find them useful in PvP for fighting literally on top of a point. But unless you’re bunkering, they’re really hard to use.

Like Amadeus said place them on players who are (almost) unable to move, e.g. downed enemies or team mates.
Well of Action is pretty good for rezzing while Well of Calamity is awesome on downed players more so if someone wants to rezz him. Gravity Well is also an option for rezzing/stomping but can be mitigated by Stability.
Well of Precognition and Recall could be somewhat usefull if you play some kind of support-chronomancer where damage is not your first task.

Generally try to place them direct on the point so your enemy has either a) stay on point to hold it and get the effect of the well or b) leave the point and leave the point for you to (de)cap.
