I’ve heard people whining about not being able to tell illusions apart from the caster, but for me, the illusion looks significantly different.

Are these people genuinely blind, or do the illusions only look different to friendlies?

Hmm, only thing I have noticed is that illusions do not show the off-hand item the mesmer has (focus, pistol, etc). If your are staff or GS they should look identical.

Care to elaborate?

Not sure if you play a mesmer but in case you don’t, here’s what you should know. There are 2 known types of illusions, namely “clones” and “phantasms”. The former (clones) look exactly like the mesmer from the player’s name down to the weapon it is using. The latter (phantasms) look like the caster except they are pink-ish purple and somewhat translucent, and may have a different form of attack than the mesmer. What you were seeing was probably a mesmer’s phantasm, not the clones.

Have you really been deluded into thinking that the clones were the real deal, and the only illusions were their phantasms? And for so long now?

Are you talking about Phantasms or Clones? Clones look the same minus off-hand. Phantasms are purple/pinkish and translucent with a different name with Illusion in them.

As has been mentioned, there should be no discernable difference between clones and the mesmer. Phantasms are easy to spot, but clones can confuse even allies. The memser downed skill to create a clone even makes allies waste time ressing the wrong you! :P

Yes, the downed skill creates a ressable clone. Or at least it did a few days ago the last time I partied…
