take mental defense over II . you dont have much boons to share and necro will just rip them off and defender will support and fill your shatter much more.
also rev spamm stability and also engia and necro in some way so consider it with lockdown build. so your best way is to moa and lockdown and kill.
you must take portal so drop decoy
I agree with Messiah, everything have stability nowaday, there is no point of running lockdown build and portal is a must ;o
Pretty standard power mesmer build.
I also agree with above, you need portal and mental defense is better choice.
Solid suggestions thanks guys!
As for the portal thing, I just can’t bring myself to use it, my reasoning being that for the 5-6 games I have used the build, we usually win the initial mid fight and so its a quick +1 with blink regardless of map. I understand the benefit of portal but for me its a preference thing.
Side note – Necros don’t have stab if you Moa them in shroud and only really fight revs if you can pick them off in a team fight rather than 1v1. Same applies to scrappers.

so again only when moa your combo works so what do you do 2.5 min in between you dont hit engi/necro/rev? so you dont 1v1 only +1 . thus you’re roamer thus portal is must or just rerole rev or thief.
if your team always win 1/4/0 rotation than maybe yes portal is not much needed but when home is decap by enemy thief/rev you can portal mid-far and decap far and comeback mid to help while enemy sending someone to cap far so you +1 than close is empty so you rush close and cap it. ending again in close-mid point in your favor.
if enemy team holding your close than you cap far and always winning the rotation game
also power mesmer is weak versus rev , engi, thief, and cant kill ranger, ele guard. thus rerole meta class /build atm till anet buff power mesmer next season
I’ve been running this build since HoT started, with the exception that I use mental defence. and gravity well. The others are right, you want that trait.
As for MoD or portal, I find that it depends a lot on your team. In solo queue MoD is more useful for me as it helps a lot in combat effectiveness. I carry portal in an organised team as you can communicate its use and they can bail you out if a duel goes bad.
Stability is prevalent but I haven’t found it to be a problem. You can strip them, but sometimes the sheer amount of dazes the build has allows you to just burn through stab.
I have to make an admission that isn’t easy to make, as I’m not a rabid Helseth fanboi, but since watching his remarks on “carrying” your teams I realized how important Portal actually is even in PuG matches with a crappy team. Portal is one of the ways that you are able to carry a team, it is a gigantic part of our mobility! (Moa is another hugely impactful ability, allowing us to sometimes carry bad teams!)
I have shunned both Moa and Portal for YEARS. I always relegated especially Portal as something that only works for an organized team, and I always soloQ.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. Just playing a few days now with Portal I’m starting to learn it’s ins and outs, and finally accept that it’s not only a game-changing utility, but also a great personal mobility/escape/reset tool. (Popping in/out of fights to heal up in between and get back in is pretty priceless.)
Moa is similar. I hated it’s failure rate and long CD, but really since HoT it’s become much more bearable. Being a Signet it now has a decent passive, and using F5 you can avoid much of the long CD and slightly diminish the impact of a failed Moa.
Besides, there is little that is more satisfying them dropping Moa on these new EZ mode FoTM professions/builds, and watching them squirm…and die…cuz when they squirm with 14 stacks of Torment on them, unable to cleanse, they die! (Or even funnier are the ones that remember the “just Peck the Mesmer!” from previous Power Mesmer metas, and fail to realize they have 10+ stacks of Confusion on them on top of that Torment. ;-) )
