Re-Rolled a Mesmer
What are you trying to do with your mesmer? I’m fairly certain we’re “meant” to be played as support in all forms of PvE, aside from open world.
In open world, I find that going Greatsword/ Sword + Sw/Sh/Fo with Strength Runes works wonders. All that might.

As a nice alternative to regular power builds, I find that interrupt builds on mesmer are exceptionally fun. They don’t work that great in VB, AB, TD, or DS due to the abundance of breakbars, but in all other maps they work wonders, and can be a lot of fun to use. Domination, Dueling, and Chrono work great (chrono for shield 5).
I’ve played a power Sw/Sw staff build successfully in PvE. The build is not recommended for PvP though.
You can shatter/use sword 2. This works well enough for PvE cruising. I’d recommend blink and Time Warp and the other utility as needed for the situation.
Twin Bolts would be a nice look.
Check out qntfy builds. They have a fractal mesmer build I use that has sw/sw and I use a gs for the other weapon. I don’t use leadership runes though. I used scholar. And instead of zerker gear I use marauder. It’s my go to build for everything but pvp and raids. Luckily I do neither of those xD
Since before release I fell in love with Mesmer for the same reasons you did, and PvE wise I have not rolled anything other than Mesmer. Less people play it because in open world other things used to be more rewarded for less effort, and your support abilities are not as far reaching in effect as compared to a grouped instance. For specific parts of the game (like Raids, Fracs, open world) the meta turns a lot of people off, and balance for PvP regarding Mesmers is historically not very fair compared to competing roles, and meta builds which are easier to play for the game type.
I dunno much for WvW so couldn’t tell you, I’d presume you’d get out sustained by most condi WvW builds at an even skill level.
What you have gear wise can take you through most content. For Raids you will need a rev to keep 100% quickness.
(Also Bolt is a wall hanger. #infinlight)
If you want a build that can do virtually anything take the inspiration line, it will give you enough survivability to endure most things. When you feel confident enough you can start rolling for more power.

I don’t main my mesmer anymore for the sole fact that Anet has no idea what they want mesmer to do anymore. It’s permanently stationed in the mists now. No point in playing pve with mesmer since it makes no sense to spam half my skillbar to kill 1 or 2 trash mobs when I can hop on my Ele and spam staff 2 every few seconds or go to my necro and spin in one of my poison fields for 16 aoe poison stacks just with 2 skills.
There is no good power build for mesmer. Best way is to run full stealth to get the HPs while using staff 3 phantasm to do actual damage on bosses based on other people’s conditions.
I’m sorry for the bad vibes but when a solo ranger pet is doing more physical damage than a mesmer and 3 phantasms something went wrong somewhere.

The best way to do some damages with mesmers is to get yourself some nice amount of quickness I would say. I go do dom/duel/chrono with MoD with sword/focus and GS. Chronophantasma, IR and alacrity on wells for chrono; blind on shatters, fury on illusions and mantra x3 for dueling; +15% damages on illusion, quickness on interrupt and double damage on disabled foes when shattering for domi. You maintain as much as you can a constant flow of quickness to be used both defensively and offensively. And you keep shattering to make sure you are not being interrupting when casting your mantra. As for utilities blink (for a safe mantra casting if you run out of shatters), MoD, and quickness well. Elite well to get more chance of interrupting a foe. Speaking of the latter, I have a question: does the quickness you gain from domination trait apply per foe or not ?

Guess it is a matter of taste. I personally hate the fact that elementalist can make huge damages just by pressing one skill just like rangers can do the same with their pets or their longbow, hence why I never bothered to level these classes.
