Yo guys , left gw for some time and just came back. Ofc I didn’t bought the hot expansion because I was like : cmon it’s just some new specs (i play pvp most of the time). So I go in on my main , mesmer , check my build that i used to stomp back when i was playing. I didn’t like that shatter build so i was always going for phantasm build. I go in a match and literally get kitten so hard and not even knowing how. Then i check to see if the build changed anyway and guess what … CHRONOMANCER everywhere.
Did this just go P2W reaaaaaaaly fast ?
Did phantasm mesmer just peaced out ?

Ok so firstly phantasm builds stopped being a thing long before the expansion. Reason being they are too easily controlled, kited and killed by anyone that has a clue how to play the game.

I wouldn’t say it’s P2W but the elite specs provide a significant power increase right across the board for most classes even mesmer. Chronophantasma in the new trait line would help make some form of phantasm build but still suffers from the same drawbacks as above so you might as well go for shatter damage.

Playing the base class you can still beat the elite specs but you need to put in 100% effort into the fight while they might put in 60% effort into a fight with you. I’d recommend going for something like a power shatter build with inspiration for cleanses. Domination, inspiration and either dueling for more damage or chaos for more defense and you just burst people down by +1 fights and portaling your team around.

Yes, you have to buy the game to play now. Or rather the expansion, which has been out for a while. It’s on sale every so often, and is fairly cool now that they fleshed out the new zones.

Just get it. The new elite specs are well worth it, adds a lot.

The current phantasm build does require Chronomancer if you want to be optimal.

In this current patch, I don’t think you have to be a chronomancer to be competitive.

I’ve been having a lot of success with either Dueling/Illusion/Chrono, or Chaos/Illusion/Chrono, and its led me to believe that I would have a similar level of success with Chaos/Dueling/Illusions. You get to apply a lot of blinds, which in turn creates a lot of confusion stacks. I think Scepter/Torch is mandatory, but the other weapon can be whatever you want. Staff is good though.

By admission you left the game “for a while”, and you simply expected to pop back in and dominate just like that? With a snap of your fingers?
