I know there have been a lot of these posts going around lately, but I didn’t want to intrude on someone else’s…

I’ve been using full Rampager’s gear since I can remember, but I’ve recently been thinking about redoing my armor for a little bit of toughness. I can’t remember exactly what my traits look like, but I know I have 30 into Illusions (for Illusionary Persona), and 20 into Domination/Chaos (Staff/GS Skills Cooldown reduction). I primarily use my Greatsword, but I switch to Staff for conditions/warlock when I can. I also keep Null Field/Feedback/Blink/Time Warp as my other skills, as they provide combo fields and defense.

This leads me to my question: what would be the best armor stats for my build? I try to keep my illusions up as often as I can, and when skills are ready, I run in and shatter them, then run back out to range for GS skills, rinse and repeat. I figure the Rabid Karma gear (Condition/Toughness/Precision) would be a good choice, but I was just wondering what people’s opinions on armor choices were. I’m mainly PvE, as I just haven’t tried PvP yet, so consider the gear to be for PvE.

I’d keep my Rampager’s Jewelry for now, as it’s a little too expensive for me to replace it at the moment (I’m a casual player and I just got Vision of the Mists this past weekend, so I’m trying to save gold again).

I stack power for GS. I see a lot of 2k-3k hits from GS1, Zerker, and GS3. My wrack is around 1200-1400 non crit and crits for 3k. I have 4 pieces of exotic karma gear from various vendors for toughness and the rest is all power/vit/crit damage with a couple having precision rather than vit to get my base crit to 20%.

This is for WvW though, if i was in PVE i wouldnt even bother with toughness, and just go all power/precision/crit multi

I am mixing Exalted carrion armor with Orr armor to get a good mixture of Power (for my shatters and for the use with GS) and then also precision (for bleeds) and vitality and toughness (for survival) and of course condition damage for my Staff.

I hope that helps I am doing 3 Exalted Carrion armor and 3 Orr armors and then will rune it with things to make up the difference and then add in the weapons to tip it to the points where I need to be.

So, stay with Rampagers?

I know with full Rampagers armor/jewelry, my crit chance is around 43-44% right now, but I don’t see any crits for 3k – that’s crazy – if I was doing that I wouldn’t change a thing…

I was getting a little tired of being that typical glass cannon in dungeons, requiring guildies to constantly be helping me up (although the trouble is pretty far outweighed by the support I’m giving with CStorm/TWarp).

If you’re not deep in dueling, there’s no point to precision. You’d get more power, more condition damage, and more health out of carrion.

If you are going deep into dueling and using the gs primary, then you want berserkers (so that those crits come with some crit damage).

Ive seen 4k crits on occasion. If you have issues with survivability get some power/toughness or power/vit gear. Right now i have 4 pieces that are power/toughness/vitality, and the rest is a mix of power/precision/crit and power/vit/crit. Im at work but my stats are about 22k health, 20% crit, 2400 power, 60ish% crit bonus from memory. Either way, if you want to DPS GS, condition damage does nothing for you, you want power.

Also ive seen plenty of bleed mesmer vids, they dont do anywhere near the damage i do. I am the same as you, i swap to a staff when i need to get defensive, but im not going to spec condition or traits for staff damage when i use it to drop some armor, blink out, and try to regen or run away (decoy) Once im healthy again its right back to GS
