Q:

Hey! So I just came back to GW2 after almost a year away because the real world decided not to leave me with too much time on my hands. Until that I had been playing since launch with an Ele main and a Mesmer + Engi for pvp. But now I think I’d like to focus on my Mesmer instead, because I admittedly remember the Ele having quite a repetitive playstyle. And so many little issues I had with the class are gone now (constant swiftness on signet of inspiration is so cool).

Okay now my actual point, I do have a few questions about the general state of mesmers and the kind of build I should be aiming for. I’ve searched around for some info but a lot of stuff I found was from before all the changes to traits and specialisations. I should also mention that I focus on pvp and pve for dungeons and fractals. I only have a couple questions.

1. Should I be building for power or conditions? I love the staff but remember the builds using staff were less great.

2. Are shatter builds still doing okay, or should I be focusing on phantasms or mantras?

3. What kind of stats should I be trying to get on my weapons and armour? Is celestial armour useful or should I just hunt down pure berserker gear?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me!

A:

Condis work okay in PvP but poorly in PvE. Power is good in either format.

Shatters are still going strong in PvP. In PvE Phants are better. Mantras had its five minutes of fame but have fallen into obscurity again, still decent though.

I don’t know of any Mesmer who runs Celestial successfully. Zerker/Marauder is considered the way to go in PvP (or Rabid/Carrion if going Condi), in PvE it’s a toss-up between Zerker and Assassin depending on how much you like reflects.
