Hey guy, returning player here have t played in a very long time. I love the mesmer colors and animation so I really want to play this class.
Was wondering is staff good dmg for pve? I want to play range I don’t really like melee or should I play sceptre or great sword really confused as to which is most good for pve world/dungeon content.
And is condition or power better.

I tried googling some info but couldn’t really find much thanks

Greatsword is a good ranged weapon. I tried staff this morning and it was noticeably worse than sword in terms of killing stuff in pve. Lyssa’s guide has good info about leveling. It does recommend a combination of ranged/melee play though.

As always you should try different weapon combos to see which ones work for you. Myself, I could not make GS/staff work better than GS/ (Sword/focus), but I did only try it for about 30 minutes.

I think power is better for leveling because most open world foes die too quickly for condi damage to add up.

For level up, I had a great time using scepter/focus,
and sword/sword. Power gear when it was cheap,
but sometimes condition gear (it’s often cheaper
at low levels). Occasional staff.

With scepter, or staff, you can fight at medium to
close range (the scepter works well for close range
kiting). Set up your phants to slow when destroyed/
shattered. Melee with swords when it’s safe.

Greatsword is the typical ranged weapon, but low
level pve can be really fun with a medium to close
range tactical set up.

A totaly easy PvE casual build is this one:
Not to expensive except the rune and staff sigils. (You can pick lyssa or scavenger)
It maintains 3 illusions.
It´s used for PvE map completion and can solo tough mobs easy.

If cronomancer it will look like this:

Of couse Viper equipement fits this build well as sinister does but this might be hard to get.
The food is often precision and condi based. The build needs a high crit rate to stack bleeding.
