Planning to get runes of the Traveler to use for, well… Travelling, but I also plan to use that set for something so I am kind of in the middle of a crossroad right now for which set I should get for a support job.

Already have my Mantra DPS build going, with it’s Ranger Rune imbued Assassin’s Set and Zerker trinkets but that get’s stale after a while. What stats should I focus on if I wanted to support? Healing and vitality?

I was thinking maybe I could make a hybrid mantra-healer using that trait-line in inspiration that heals every time you ready a mantra and just spam the Mantra of damage that only has a 1 second cooldown or something.

Any opinions on Support and PvE?

How does vitality support your party when it gives you more health?

Mob positioning, reflect, condition cleanse, stability, daze, stun and quickness all fall under support and control and don’t require healing or vitality in any way.

I think mesmer is the most “support” class with Guardian. What Maha said.

Well, Inspiration gives Healing and Vitality and a lot of glamour and reflect focused effects from it’s trait-line, so I just assumed Vitality would be good for me as well since I could stay alive longer while providing support.

Good to know I have pretty much free-reign though as far as stats go though. I guess condition damage is good for support if you’re planning to run staff + scepter/ward?

But what if you just dodge the big hits? You don’t need vitality.

And why would you need healing when everyone has their own heal?

I’m just confused here, it’s like you want to invest in a selfish HP stat and then a healing stat you’ll never use.

I think my mind was just on the wrong trail, tbh.

I was focusing on TRAIT X in the Inspiration tree which is called Restorative Mantra’s which heals every time you ready a mantra, so I thought I could support on world bosses like Tequatl and such by just spamming heals through mantra’s.

Checked out how much the healing stat actually affected Restorative Mantra’s, and it turns out that 100 points into healing is only a puny 20 points of additional healing from Restorative Mantra’s, so I don’t think that’ll help at all.

Let’s brainstorm ! If you’re bored with the power meta in mesmer, it’s always interesting to theorycraft.

IMO, Mantra of Pain with Restorative Mantra is annoying to play. You keep charging and charging, over again. Guardians and Eles do it better. Restorative Mantra looks more usefull for Mantra of Recovery, because you’ll get an instant heal after your charging, which can be crucial.

Maybe Phantasms will give better healing/support than spammy mantra builds. For the lul, in PvP, I tried full cleric with idesenchanter, idefender, sigil of water and it turned out fine.

I actually toyed with Restorative Mantras during the Tower of Nightmares. I set Mantra of Pain to autoattack, and stayed with my phantasms; the mantra would heal them almost to full every couple seconds, and they managed to stay alive almost all the time even in the AoE-heavy final boss. It was annoying, but it worked, and my party stayed alive for a lot more of the fight than when I dropped it and went for damage. (Never again, though.)

If you’re running huge fights, and really want to go full support, go with Rune of Mercy, first of all. It’s pretty amazing for getting people up, and should still be pretty cheap. I don’t know if rune effects stack – I figure they should – but if you can collaborate with a couple more people for the same, you can probably res Defeated much faster than forcing them to waypoint.

Statwise, if you do what I did and run mostly phantasms, you’ll probably want power, healing, precision, and get ferocity where you can. Healing may not help mantras much, but don’t forget – you should be getting a Regen pulse from Phantasms. The rest of those are just for improving DPS where you can. (Find something – maybe vit and toughness – to swap precision and ferocity with if you choose to focus on “world objects” like Teq though, crit does nothing for them if you weren’t aware.)

Mantra Support is not a bad idea for PvE, it can be fun to play if thats your thing but you cannot just simply put 4 into Inspiration and necessarily succeed at support.

Mantra traits are very scattered, Dueling holds a reduced recharge trait you’ll need for at least 2 points.

This is where i have to point out that Mesmer have to do 3 times the work for Half the rewards tho, Managing Mantras to keep the heals up is a pain in the kitten . seriously.. its not a lot of fun and it eats up a LOT of your fight time charging them up (3s per charge per mantra per heal) and if you so much as break that channel, its no heal and a longer wait to try again.

Phantasms granting Regen is also kind of helpful to your party, provided you know where to place them and when to place them and they don’t get destroyed by monster AOE…

Vigor on Shatter can actually benefit your party more than a heal in 90% of combat cases, more dodges for everyone means more invulnerable time for everyone. this only takes 2 into Inspiration to grab.

Mesmers also have more access to preventative support than they do reactive support (healing). Random boons from Chaos storm, boon sharing via the signet, stealth, Haste, Stuns, a pull or a push.. it’s easier to build down this path than it is to attempt to be a Staff Guardian, it’s much less crippling or intrusive to how mesmers work at this time.
