Say scepter clones use the whole attack chain
This means clones cloning clones cloning clones. What are the potential uses of something like that? Would this give the scepter a useful niche, or would it just be a useless novelty?
My build would LOVE if my clones made clones that overwrote my clones since whenever a clone dies very bad things happen to my enemy and anyone near them… that and it’d make generating clones pretty easy once you got one out, i’d think it’d be a bonus, i mean it couldn’t possibly -hurt- the scepter so long as the clones being made could overwrite the casting clone (or that if you have max illusions and no open clone spots no clone is made)
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
it means you would have a very quick passive clone generation, meaning traits that boost your stats based on number of clones out would be more effective.
as well as traits that give conditions/confusion on clone death. it would boost condition damage on scepter decently.
it does little else.
as much as this would be awesome to see, the potential for abuse with a build would be a bit over-the-top.
Still, this would just be hilarious.
Yeah, I think the biggest improvement would be to “X on clone death” builds, dropping a self-replicating ball of exploding clones. It could get crazy, but then again they are ranged (and stupid) so it should be pretty trivial to walk out of their blast radius. At the very least it would give the scepter a little push towards being a solid midrange weapon, with all the +damage/speed/armor per illusion traits and Sharper Images.
Still, I am babby mesmer and I don’t follow the game all that seriously so what do I know, I just think it would be great fun to watch.
Sadly, Scepter on Clones only use the first attack. They do not apply the entire chain.
On the bright side, if you spawn a clone using a bundle, they do the “Scepter Clone Chain”*.
*: Again, only the first auto.
I once had the idea that each Scepter clone could have their own group of up to 3 “secondary” scepter clones. Indistinguishable, but they aren’t used for any shattering or trait, and if the master clone is destroyed, all secondary clones go down with them.
Still, that’d be 12 clones among which to hunt the real mesmer.

And then the clones clones would clone and the clone tree would spread indefinitely until the enemy dies from 25 stacks of bleeding and 6 damage auto attack procs.

Figuring that out was the first and still the biggest disappointment I have with the class
And who needs bleed stacks when you can just melt their graphics card?
