Shatter hits insanely harder now which is a no brainer.

But i noticed i find myself standing most of the time because of the vigor nerf.

Imo, DE and the vigor nerf is counter productive. I mean yes you need to plan your burst now, but with the trait changes and amulet changes going full zerk will only net you 16k hp.

PS: An interrupt mesmer eats me alive, An izerker when it crits hits for 8k. 1 phantasm takes half of my life, Power Block deals 3k-5k damage on 1 interrupt. + all the interrupt traits you will be getting.

So dodging zerker will blow one of your dodges and the clone might end dying on the spin.

So yeah I really felt the vigor nerf hit hard.

I always had an energy sigil on my sword/staff exactly because I like wasting dodges, it didn’t change post patch, and I don’t see myself lacking that many evasion :/

I do agree with you on your build. But I do use GS Sw/torch so i had energy only on 1 set.
and dont forget on top of blink you get an 8 sec PR to avoid further damage.

Clone production on staff is better because PR procs a clone without needing a target, and staff is more defensive due to CS and Chaos armor so I am guessing you don’t necessarily need to dodge in order to mitigate damage.

I dueled another mesmer (icy) who said the same thing as I did. We were running the same weapon set so I do not know if that was really a factor.

I think Marauder Amulet is better than Zerker since you get the vitality in exchange for loss in burst (which is easily compensated by Mental Anguish)

exactly, I barely dodge for the mitigating damages, prefer to reserve them for those O-kitten moments in my day…
PR, blurred frenzy and even chaos storm provides nice escape capabilities
I started using CDampening post patch and IDefense with an interrupt build (that I posted somewhere not long ago) and I find it mitigating the damage quite well

Shatter definitely feels easier to me. I didn’t feel the vigor nerf, but there’s definitely ways to supplement survivability. Hello signets. I haven’t found Shattered Concentration a must-have tonight thus far on my power shatter build.

Thanks for the replies. I am using the pre patch Mesmer shatter build. Blink Decoy Port Moa.

So you could imagine how hard vigor hit me, I am using the same ways to be defensive and offensive.

Post patch I run 6/6/0/0/6. I just added the extra points and too shatter related traits.

I’ve been playing nothing but shatter since the patch dropped. I watched some of Supcutie’s stream and have been playing both his build and shatter + PU. Both use the new zerker derivative amulet with vitality (forget the name, sorry).

Supcutie’s build

GS (Energy / Air) | Staff (Energy / Generosity)

Domination: 1 – 1 – 3
Duelist: 2 – 1 – 3
Chaos: 3 – 3 – 1

Shatter with PU

GS (Air / Fire) | Sword + Torch (Energy / Generosity)

Domination: 3 – 1 – 1 or 2
Duelist: 2 – 1 – 3
Chaos: 3 – 1 – 2

Supcutie’s build is far less forgiving and I find myself caught out in situations where I don’t have enough vigor to set up another spike or mitigate damage, but that’s because I’m not as good a mesmer player. I’m also not very comfortable with staff. When it was working for me it was working flawlessly, especially when I was dueling thieves and chasing opponents.

The PU build is just stupid. If you die running that build you either got supremely unlucky or really kittened up. Stealth, set up spike, rinse, repeat ad infinitum.

Oh ok! I always felt more comfortable with torch, but the pistol trait in combination with S. Domination, sigil of paralyzation and 30%+ dmg Mind Wrack on non skill-users made for some awfully funny bursts tonight.

And due to being able to have sustain with the signets trait, I don’t feel that the stealth on torch is top as necessary for my playstyle. I’ll give the classic build a go sometime or maybe you can just report back here with more of your findings!

It’s too early to tell where the chips will fall, because a lot of stuff has changed and you can’t expect the old way to work in a new system. For example, I ran a Dom/Duel/Insp build last night with the pDefender off block, and found it to be remarkably decent in adding an illusion to my shatters when I needed it most. It’s completely passive and it protects you and your illusions for a split moment before it gets shattered.

I had good luck vs. Thieves with this using F3 to stun, into MB+MS for first Clone, then BF and they’d whiff into that to create the pDefender, and popping iLeap I’d get the third out very rapidly and MW without using a Dodge. (You won’t need to dodge anything, because of Blind on shatter.)

All in all you shouldn’t need to Dodge nearly as much thanks to that Blind. With Insp I just wanted the counter to Condies along with self-heal on shatter (which they “nerfed” so you no longer get a double heal with IP, but I guess this was to be expected), and the pDefender can be really nice defense in 1v1, and a free added Illusion.

Also played PU Condie Shatter and Power Shatter, both work really well.

As usual, MtD still has issues facing competent teams (Warrior+Guardian combos I could hardly even dent, same for Ele’s), but partly simply because you run out of illusions and shatters to keep the flow of Torments coming. With Chronomancy that might change a bit. It’s definitely a pretty amazing newb-bashing build in unranked though, it’s almost impossible to kill ya and if ignored for even a moment that Confusion + Torment will eat you alive in a hurry.

So far I like what I’ve seen…

Yeap If use other variants you have better survivability (PU, Blurred Signets). Against baddies yeah no problem wreck their faces. Against good ones? It is hard to win.

Mind you I got facerolled by tealots using a PU power lockdown build, I manage to win 2% of those duels, and those are hard fought for me.

Anyone of you guys have trouble with iLeap? I for one have a hard time swapping, I press the button and it does not swap me, I still have the press it again and again in order for it to go through,

The nerf to vigor is annoying because most players don’t look at their endurance bar but we just had a “feel” for how long it takes for it to recharge. We know when the next dodge is available. But since it has changed, we get constantly stuck thinking we have the dodge available but it is not.
It will take a few days to sink in.
I personally think it’s a good idea. Many classes had perma-vigor and that almost means infinite dodge :p This mechanics was broken. Especially in PvE since you can basically dodge all attacks considering the NPC attack speed.

The thing about it is that DE is counter productive to the Vigor Nerf. Which how the whole shatter spec revolves on. Other specs yeah no problem.

Also, Thieves get 50% Endurance regen, so vigor nerf is useless to them.

To be fair, it’s probably the same for all light/medium classes now.
