Shatter Mesmer Roaming Montage #5!
Very enjoyable indeed!
I’ve played mesmer in pop for about 2 years and might pop in every now and then in wvw. What set up are you running with? It seems quite similar to the power shatter in pop, right?
It is power shatter!
One criticism I will make is that we see a lot of footage where it cuts after you kill 1-2 guys but there’s a few still left. It makes us wonder whether you won or lost those fights, whether you got the kills or were left stomped.
It’s some pretty impressive bursts you’re doing and you do a good job kiting and surviving, still could do with seeing what the ultimate outcome was.
To put it in another way, those wanting to try the build get to see it in action but don’t get to see how effective it is as getting 1-2 stomps but getting killed yourself and not flipping a camp is a considerable point swing.

I will keep that in mind! Half of the time i cut it cause it’s just people either running away at the end, me running away, or me just dieing~

Generally speaking, I will cut a clip when whatever comes after fizzles out or drags on to some non-conclusion. I don’t want to bore a viewer with inconsequential. Drama, action, tension, these are all good tenants to focus on for the viewers sake. So stopping at a good conclusion is better than drawing on into the mundane.
Showing a defeat isnt necessarily a bad thing though. At the very least you can end off a vid with one.
Like at the end of this fight I finished off with my demise
https://youtu.be/3SzB0haYHlY?t=400
We wrested control of the point and dominated the fight over the 2.5 minutes. At the 9 minute mark my team suddenly pulls off and rotates away which I don’t wholly realize. I then get burst hard, and blink away, but make a critical error and walk off the ledge I’d escaped to with everything on CD. No health, no options left, and a 1v3, that was the end of that.

Yeah I agree, don’t drag it out and show boring stuff however he does cut a bit too early in my opinion to see what the ultimate goal was.
First fight was good, nicely cut, we see you win, starting to stomp them. Now some more people could have joined, wiped you or whatever however we got closure and saw you win.
Second fight, good fight, nicely done against the thieves (tip: don’t block the engage due to basi venom which most thieves engage with for unblockable burst) and ranger however you cut away as a thief comes back for more. I take it you lost? Retreated into SM, maybe went poof in a pile of butterflies? I dunno you just cut it as the fight with that guy starts.
If you showed an extra few seconds of running into SM or even away then people know that you played smart and disengaged when out of cool downs.
Third “fight”, clear you downed them all, no probs there.
Forth fight in the camp, nicely cut, nice burst avoidance from the mesmer too.
Final fight, nice, ended appropriately. One improvement I would have suggested in terms of combat is you should have blinked into the water and swam away underwater and healed. A lot of the time you can get away that way especially if you have clones kicking around.
Solid points right there. Thanks as always!
About the 2 thieves.. i saw 2 evades and i actually thought both of them actually tried to backstab me or something. thought i already made their basilisk venom ‘useless/gone’. Didn’t expect one to range me.
Yeah it didn’t cross my mind that I could have gone back into the water, will keep that one in mind. Mesmers are better uw than most proffessions after all.

2 evades usually means evaded the teleport then the backstab to me, if there were 2 thieves I’d invuln/dodge/CC heavy environment till they both came out of stealth tbh as I know how slippery and lethal they can be to mesmers.
Definitely, they are also one of the best to escape under water. Another thing you can do is swim to the bottom, the reason being your name will be hidden by the terrain unless they’re looking down and near the edge.
If I was in that position I’d have blinked a little closer to the water, healed like you did but decoy into the water. I can see why you went back for seconds as they were downing to you pretty easily though.
Anyway excellent gameplay.
The attacks i evaded werent like 2 at once , more like .. There was more of a gap inbetween making me think it wasnt backstab + steal.
Yeah they really dropped easily, making me think i could just dance around them the whole time, was really arrogant of me though.
Have you thought about using Draining sigils? I honestly find them to be fantastic in WvW with a few 5K heals mid-fight from Tides of Time and Gravity Well alone.
Are you talking about sigil of blood/leeching? I am using blood on my gs, i don’t really like leeching on neither gs nor my sword in case you mean those.
Very impressive Wyrden, say could you go into detail how you deal with thieves and trap from dragon hunter? I use a similiar build in pvp but instead of GS i use staff instead because of phase retreat and chaos storm, they help me to get out of those oh kitten moment when i got backstap or step into a dh trap.
I am copying this from the comments , someone asked the same about thieves. I don’t exactly know your build so it may / may not help much.
Thieves are a pretty strong counter to power mesmers. But the thief needs to actually play good, if they are a bad / mediocore thief they will most likely just die easily. It’s almost impossible to beat a GOOD thief on power mesmer.
General tips i can give :
-When they are in stealth count to 2 then use sword2 /shield 4
-You generally want to stay on sword/shield most of the time against them.
-Switch to Gs if you know they won’t be able to burst you (If you have f3 / f4 up for some defense)
-Manage your cooldowns + endurance (dont use your active defenses only, use a dodge inbetween so that you regen that while you are using sword 2 / shield 4 , it’s important to manage those against thieves!)
-Dont use blocks if they got basilisk venom , the stun is unblockable and will interrupt your block
Dragonhunters are annoying to fight against cause of their high uptime of ‘perma block’.
Anyway :
-dont shadowstep out of their trap , you will steal eat damage if you do, you can dodge through or shadowstep while dodging to avoid that.
-I generally try to keep a distance between us and make sure to dodge their f1(the spear)
-Save your f3(daze) for their f2(wing of resolve)
-If they use longbow you can try reflecting their longbow 2 with your f4, but good ones usually don’t use longbow.
-Use your sword 2 almost always purely defensive/to rip their focus 5 blocks
I didn’t really get to fight many dragonhunters outside of pvp, and in pvp i am not really using mesmer often , that’s all i got to say i guess

This one. Can pick them up from Heroics dude in WvW and it’s relatively cheap.

No ICD. 1K heal, 1.1K damage. Finding it to be rather superb – especially with shield, 5 target Diversion and Gravity Well. Some nice 5K heals at time

It does sound amazing, i think i am gonna try this instead of hydromancy sigil. But i am not expecting too much, almost everyone runs stability in WvW nowadays. Thanks for showing me that! Don’t expect an answer soon , I just unlocked tier 4 of the pvp achievements, gonna grind them the whole week. Thank arenanet for the time gated stuff .

Sigil of draining is something you would benefit from if you had boon removal to get rid of stab. I run domination instead of illusion so I have shattered concentration as well as mind stab for boon removal. For me interrupts are much more common and easier. I only really like for shutting down druids that try to heal and kite, running powerblock and getting the heal then astral skills makes for a dead druid very quick.
However I find DH, retribution rev, warriors (the ones running eternal champion) and scrappers have way too much stability to really utilise interrupt traits/sigils. Necros, eles and anything else that only has a single stack of stab or limited access they fair much better against but I find I wouldn’t break too much of sweat on a chrono build against them anyway.
There’s also a boonsteal on interrupt sigil which looks good but never really noticed it when I was using it. That was right at HoT launch when things were very bunkerish though.
It certainly does suffer against DH, Herald, Berserker and Scrapper that have such easy access to stability. But it’s worth a shot for those time where Tides of Time interrupts a cluster. It also works well with Mistrust builds after the sort-of-nerf/change to perplexity runes lowered the overall upfront dps from your initial interrupt.
With Sigil of Draining and a lucky crit from Power Block you can actually get interrupt damage comparable to Pulmonary Impact headshot spam

The way of the Mesmer:
Do 10x as many things to get 75%-100% the impact of what others do by hammering a button on their keyboard.
But hey, Portal! Obviously OP. Nerf!
