Shatter targets?
- With IP and no clones the shatter effect occurs on you.
- If you don’t have a target, the shatter effect occures in its small AoE radius, hitting anything in range
- If the target is invisible, standard AoE mechanics apply. If clones are targeting the thief and you shatter while he’s in stealth, the clones will stop (or run to last location) and shatter on the spot.
Slight silly theoretical question about the last point Ross mentioned.
“IF” shattering illusions continue to chase stealthed opponents, would you guys consider it as balanced or unbalanced?
I know it’ll make mesmer’s core mechanics more appealing in those encounters. But that sort of make thieves hard countered by mesmer (though sufficient kite still works against running illusions).

Perfectly balanced, since all other channeled attack skills can “see” through stealth.
Whether that is kittened or not is another question.
Also the only hard counter to a thief is another thief. The reason classes can survive a thief onslaught is defensive traits (retal, sheilds, etc), condition damage (burning on hit, etc) or being aimed toward 1v1 evasion while still doing damage (like the Mesmer).

I don’t think it’d be very balanced if the illusions were to continue chasing an opponent in stealth. It is already easy enough to predict where a player is, and you can always dodge up a couple clones on the spot and stand among them until the opponent pops out of stealth again. If they are dumb enough to engage you and break their stealth, that’s an easy instant shatter hitting them with some quick reaction. If they, e.g., used Shadow Refuge, bomb it if you’re not going to knock them out of it. I’m not a fan of stealth, and I take care not to use it anymore in my builds, but I don’t think our clones should chase a person in stealth. It’s dumb enough that channeled skills continue to follow them.
