the focus is currently my favorite OH weapon for the mesmer. i like to keep a safe distance from my opponent so my only option is the scepter. i assume the scepter is a survival weapon since the trait line that directly benefits it deals with vitality and healing power. the only trait that specifically references the scepter give a condition damage buff. this makes me believe that we are expected to spike with the only condition available to the scepter: confusion. with these two things in mind there are two areas that can easily be changed to help the scepter:

1. the more obvious and popular complaint is about the 1 slot chain skill. what i do not recommend is adding confusion to the first attack so that your clones use it too. the trident clones cause confusion and even playing as a mesmer i feel it is a bit over powered having clones constantly bombard enemies with bouncing balls of confusion. having this on a scepter that can practically sneeze out clones would be far too godly. you can add it to the 2nd or 3rd chain (dealers choice) but is not all that necessary to have it there at all.

2. what i would very much like to see is more mobility and an easier way to hide yourself among your clones. i believe a good way to do this is a “flicker” similar to what happens when you use the scepter block skill. it teleports you a very short distance and summons a clone at the same time.

3. of course this only helps at short range since the mesmers are summoned at the target. if done at long range telling who the real mesmer is is child’s play even if you are moving. for this reason i would also like to see clones summoned at the caster instead of the target. i realize that it summons at the target to prepare for a shatter but i believe that clones summoning on the caster is more beneficial.

4. lastly the block skill doesn’t feel very useful. after a successful block you add a clone. not too bad but all it is is a 50/50 chance to guess who you are. in my opinion it seems better to use the block to blind. you get the same initial effect of avoiding damage but now your free to do whatever you want without worrying about giving away who you are too soon. i would like to see the block a bit more…punishing. i believe a few stacks of confusion would do nicely as well as fit the theme of the skill.
