I just finished crafting a full set of Sinister armor and accessories but have not decided on Weapons, Sigils, Runes, Utilities and trait distribution.

What would you recommend I’d fill those with? (disregard cost)
Maybe share your experience running something similar!

I hope I could gain more perspective on different ways available to run this spec since I’m not so creative with mesmer!

I’m really looking forward to having some fun in WvW with this build

Check out IrxAllis on YouTube. He posts great WvW build/strategy/philosophy videos.

His past few videos have been using a sinister shut-down build. He’s also really nice to talk to in-game. Very enthusiastic, insightful and friendly.

I don’t understand Sinister gear, could you explain why you are using it over rabid or something else?

Isn’t one of the benefits of running condi the increased survivability? Why go glass condition? Glass defense with max burst offense makes sense, glass defense with over time offense makes less it seems.

The power from sinsiter isn’t bad, especially combined with other gear like Zerk or Cav. The point is to hit hard, load conditions and have a ton of pressure on the opponent. I want to say that Sinister was practically made for Scepter-Pistol runners.

our condi weapons already apply tons of power damage ( scepter 3 is blurred frenzy and staff 3 cna hit for over 10k in wvw, duelist can hit over 10k in wvw ) and if you feel like you can survive w/o defensive stats then sinisters is much stronger. I personally reccomend atleast cele armor though for more survivability and crit damage if your going to run a hybrid build even on mesmer or thief.

I’d recommend stay off of celestial gear for now. Not only does it invest stats on healing power (yuck), the devs did say they’ll tone it down further in the future. I suspected it’ll take another hit in HoT.

Sinister could work with MtD shatter in WvW due to how powerful the condi duration food are. You can actually surpass power shatter in the long run if your opponent can’t manage cleansing under power shatter pressure.

Just some random set for you to consider, the main idea is to keep power 2000, condi 1000, crit chance 50% and the rest for vitality/toughness if you need some passive stats to survive (which you might need since you don’t have immediate damage as full power shatter). Better to roam with a friend tbh, I find healway guard/DD ele quite useful in keeping you alive, or thief partner if you want to be a bit more aggressive. I prefer sigil of incapacitation because my thief partner usually handle the poison part.

MtD variants seems ideal since all my shatters will be even more powerful
that leaves the domination points that I could shuffle around

how about runes and sigil choices?

Edit: how would Greatsword fair compared to staff in this set up?

I have decided to to go with energy/doom combo on sceper/pistol since i had the sigils lying around in the bank, using zerker GS with air/fire till i get some gold to craft a sinister staff and every other piece of equipment other than that is sinister.

I’ll go with the suggested food and potions

Now the part that makes my head spin…how about discussing the viable set of runes that would go with the build?

Both GS and staff are quite decent.

The clones from GS could generate decent bleed stacks and mirror blade will give you the burst power you need to push people to defensive. But if you want to run GS your precision demand will be slightly higher than staff.

Staff is more consistent with condition applying and you get to kite better, but you lack the burst power and you can’t stop opponent when they’re running in low health. Also you’ll lack the power pressure needed to push people to defensive (eg. pew pew rangers etc).

Runes…I run tormenting (waaaaay overkill the duration I know) right now because I don’t want to sell it yet haha. You’re confusion duration is almost 90-100% so no worries there, your rest of conditions will be 60-70% depend on your oil etc. This means you’ve almost reach condition caps and you’re condition duration have surpassed skill CD. Anymore plus durations will be overkill.

You can run whatever you like tbh, travelers for the passive speed or runes of pack for extra power + precision + fury. Hoelbrak if you have trouble managing conditions or balthazar if you are running staff. Perplexity proc on interrupt could be helpful, but you’ll only gain condi duration benefit if you’re facing opponent with minus condi duration food (which is more likely if fighting zerg etc).

I dont think tormenting rune set is really needed with 4 in domination

I’ll give traveler runes a go for a lil while.

does anyone know if madking runes bonus on elite actually auto reveals?
