Slow mesmer speed is a killjoy in WvW
I use 5 superior runes of air and a focus and I do not fall behind anyone. I really don’t think it’s that bad.
As an asura, I do this all the time.”

Yeah, I also run this combo, but then you’re stuck with using a weapon that others might not normally use. I wish our signet was run speed like almost every other class.
Not this thread again >.<

You might not -want- to use a focus in WvW but it is really awesome for it.

Why only five? o.o

Because clearly getting a Sigil of Air on your armor is not worth 20 of a stat.

6000-7000 damage 6-rune is definitely worth dropping 20 of a stat, unless they nerfed it too.
We’re going to keep seeing threads like this until Anet gives Mesmers some swiftness options. That’s just how it’s going to be.

Depends on your build for the damage to be significant.

I always rage but never quit.
Only reason mesmers are not my main. Im all about mobility, but my ele is way better at that, heck, ranger, necro, thief, ele have all some way to move around, even warriors and guardian get skills they can use with their normal weapons to launch them ahead, and in some cases some utility weapons that give them almost pema swiftness, meanwhile us we have only one spell, ONE, attached to a weapon……

If it gives you any hope, I used to hate focus but came to love it eventually.

For a conditon build, 6 runes of the centaur are better anyway. And 6 runes of air would still be better than 5 runes of air and one gem.
I seem to remember a dev commenting somewhere that they were working on the Mesmer speed issue, but I could have been hallucinating. Also, “working on” only lends the weakest hope for an actual fix.
I typically run focus + blink in WvW. I typically keep up OK. When I have my commander tag on, I find the group buffs my swiftness plenty.
The pull on the focus is awesome. My server was blue for a while, and I could pull people off the bridge at Langor Gulch in EB from below. They’d lose about half of their health from the fall and panic, which made for easy pickings
That said, I wish I wasn’t forced to use a focus, because the pistol is great, and the stealth on the torch is also very useful. Alas, I save those for sPvP.

Got some movement improvements coming for Mesmer also. Mostly more reliable swiftness.
Was a lie.
Signet of Inspiration got reverted to the old way it worked. Probably an internal joke by now.
Reroll engineer for 100% swiftness…
…and suck at everything else in WvW.
Blink / Phase Retreat.
swiftness and perma +speed sigils were a pendoras box. they should just rather remove all sigils and swiftness buffs from the game. Currently it steals away an utility slot for those who have a sigil, or it forces a certain gameplay upon characters (air/centaur/focus for Mesmers) for constantily keeping it up or it just overkill everyone who hasn’t it.
No matter what you do, it’s a pandoras box that keep making people unhappy. For gods sake, just remove that stupid buff completely out of the game and give back the chance to invent builds without the absolute nessessity of having a perma speedbuff.

or just let everyone have swiftness when out of combat, for free

An Engineer can match a Mesmer in just about everything but teleport and warp (same in sPvP, heh).
Anyway, I agree that it is annoying to see theives, elementalists, and necros have perma speed (ie not swiftness), while warrior and engineer can easily achieve perma-swiftness. Guardian is the only one being almost as slow as a mesmer but even they got some extra skills for it. Ranger I am actually unsure of skillwise but they could always ride their pet or something.
Why has the mesmer been singled out to not have that much swiftness or a signet? I have no idea. You could argue the “strength” of the class but that’d probably be insulting theives that can 2-hit kill stuff or elementalists that are unkillable, necros that can AoE bomb, etc…
I’d rather have no class with such unfair speed traits personally.
Lets not forget that the focus curtain also doesnt stack with existing swiftness (or it breaks and reset it). This apply to the Guardian as well so they are both double kittened when it comes to swiftness.
That said, I dont really find it that much of an issue when playing. Yes you are slower, but not that much. In a group its completely irrelevant. Using a focus is as required in wvw as using a warhorn is on a warrior (traiting for focus skill reflection is awesome, haha) so you do get your own bit of speed.

You’re basically forced to use a focus in WvW if you want to move around. It’s either that or sacrifice runes. As long as you stick with the bigger groups your mobility is fine.
Unfortunately nothing compares to a thiefs’ mobility (have one). Guardian’s aren’t that bad either because you can get near 100% uptime on swiftness.
Just in general though my Mesmer has very good survivability with the staff. I hardly, if ever, die.

I love these threads because i dont use runes of centaur or air and i’m still faster than everyone just by using focus 4, blink and using other players area buffs.
Fallen, that will you give swiftness and blink. Even traited, blink is 1,200 range.
Ranger greatsword cancels out your blink and is on a much shorter cooldown.
Elementalist ride the lightning, lightning flash, and burning speed beat it out.
Warrior’s whirlwind, charge, and leap beat your blink.
and so on…
I’m sure you can keep up with the necromancers, engineers, and guardians, but those other classes are in a tier of their own as far as cross country speed.
Try your best to not make mistakes, but, when you do make mistakes, learn from them.
Better yourself.

Stockholm syndrome, or capture–bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors for an act of kindness.
To me the swiftness from focus is a bonus to me, it is so good in WvW I couldn’t imagine myself not using it.
In addition to it adding swiftness to a group, it can apply cripple, drag people back, get people off keep walls, the utility is there. The number 5 is amazing as well as it does decent burst dmg, can apply alot of bleeds, reflect projectiles, etc. Great to drop in a crowd. Quite simply, any other offhand doesn’t compare when WvW is concerned, so I will gladly be a slave to my focus.
Between that and blink, I often do not have a problem keeping up with most parties and people, although I am not quite as fast. Would rather not waste my runes by putting in the runes of air or centaur, I use divinity runes as no stat seems to be wasted on a mesmer.

I dunno, to me it doesn’t sound like a versatile solution either to give each class a 25% movement signet or “a swiftness weapon”, because that basically locks one utility/weapon slot and doesn’t help with the goal of introducing more viable builds to the game. I don’t want to feel forced to trait faster movement speed either, but maybe this would be the least restricting solution (if the trait was minor and tier 1).
I currently play a build on my Mesmer without any form of Swiftness and it’s terrible to move around OOC in WvW, but it’s the build I wish to play and artificially adding Swiftness procs etc. to it would make it less effective. Switching to Focus all the time and back isn’t how I want to play either, because I find it super annoying.
