I usually play condi, or sustained balance, or something. I’ve known all the arguments, but it just hasn’t been my style.

But one day a mesmer did a great deal of damage with a power shatter against me, and recently I was playing some pvp and using either a zerker or assassin set, which I don’t normally do, and watched just using my pZerker and one use of Mirror Blade drop a ranger and a thief during a match drop them down to a fraction of their health made me think I should get past my prejudice against such builds and try it out.

My problem is that I’m only an adequate dodger, so my survivability has been lackluster; plus having a thief in one match one shotting me with over 16k backstabs from stealth wasn’t fun either.

However, I’ve been reading here of people talking about stealthed mesmers bursting people down almost instantly, not quite one shotting, but within a couple seconds, various targets.

It really hasn’t been my style to play that kind, but reading all this combined with these recent experiences makes me want to try it out. So, I was wondering if someone could share with me both the build and the tactics revolving using the build in pvp and wvw.

Gonna try it out and see if I can make myself like it

It’s one part experience, to one part skill, to one part role.

So knowing how to play Roaming DPS is important plus just conquest and roations in general

There are various builds you can run, I use Phantrupt, though you probably hear people complain about PU power shatter

Then if you have the above two, you can understand what’s going on a bit better in actual gameplay examples.

First, we cannot one-shoot people (at least not anymore). You have to practice the burst rotation on a golem, to make it fast and efficient. When you see in ESL, the combo is so fast that you almost don’t see the mesmer doing anything but the health of the enemy dropped.
The current “best build” involves PU, so survivability is about going back to stealth to prepare a next burst. But obviously, you cannot do high damage AND high survivability (you’re not an elementalist ), so dying is part of the experience, especially in the beginning.

Sometimes I wonder if you’re a real mesmer or just a fabulous warrior.

I recently have been enjoying this PU/Mantra build in both PVP and WvW. It has superb survivability and adequate damage with the help of Mantra of Pain.

I guess thats the point. I suppose I see the potential already as i three shotted a few targets (pBerserker, Mirror Blade, and mind stab finished them pretty quick), and i’m wondering if going pBerskerer→Mirror Blade→Signet of the Ether→pBerserker may get the same results, all from under stealth.

I’m just not used to that fast of a burst, always having played with at least some defensive stats, so adjusting my mind set here; I’m just not sure what they typical burst rotation is.

If you’re exploring power Mesmer but want something a bit more sophisticated than “F1+three clones to win,” you should check out some lockdown/interrupt builds.

Dodging ultimately isn’t the primary defense of a squishy build. That’s your last line of defense, the thing that you have to resort to if everything else fails.

Your primary defense is positioning. If you aren’t in an easily attackable position, it becomes harder to attack you. If you don’t get into the middle of a fight except to unload damage and then vanish, it’s much harder to get a consistent amount of pressure onto you. You need to keep a close lookout for significant ranged threats, such as LB rangers or mortar engies, or other classes that can be dangerous to you without having to play on your terms with positioning, and eliminate them first.

Essentially, make it difficult and unrewarding to attack you, and you’ll end up safer as a result. If someone does ultimately get to you, now you’ve got to use your active defenses. You’ll need to dodge, avoid attacks with blinding dissipation, evade with blurred frenzy, and most importantly stealth and relocate to a better position.

dodge, invul , blink, stealth, blind…we have so many ways of avoid hits you just need to use them wisely. Really with 1200 blink + stealth you should be able to disengage from any fight as long as you realize a hopeless situation early enough. The beauty is even when someone get to you, that is the time to shatter in their face make them eat 7-10k of damage and get blinded.
