So, about that pistol main hand...
I still believe that a focus main hand could not only allow for an awesome class concept, but could be used for some serious personal DPS if implemented correctly.
The idea of pistol main hand is growing on me though.
Break the mold and give us a main-hand Torch!
Mesmer could do a lot of cool things with MH Pistol, but the fact is that we’ve already got a lot of single-target ranged weapons to choose from. What we lack is a solid melee alternative to the Sword, especially when you consider that it’s literally the only melee weapon we have at all. (Although, granted, Staff AA is more effective the closer you are to your target.)
So, I’d really like to see some kind of melee main-hand for our new Elite spec. It doesn’t even have to be a traditional melee weapon, and in fact I’d love it if we got something off-beat like the ranged Hammer for Revenants.
A main-hand Focus weapon that punches enemies with magic would be a cool way to go. Or a main-hand Torch.
That being said, I think a lot of folks will feel slightly cheated to get an Elite Spec that doesn’t come with a new weapon phantasm… So I would expect to get either a 2H weapon or another off-hand weapon.

I was never too fond of the idea of Pistol mainhand in the past (and didn’t really like offhand until very recently), however the introduction of H.O.P.E. has made me want it – one of the few legendaries I would rather use the skin over other skins.
However in terms of weapon skills, I’ve always wanted mainhand Focus without question. Would be so awesome to have an elite spec based around crowd control and misdirection (not simply interrupt but denial, debuff, ragdolling (limited so as not to frustrate enemy players)) at the expense of burst damage.
It sounds good but I don’t see it happening.
The class already has 4 ranged weopens so adding another wouldn’t make sense.
Itl more likely be a Melee main hand or two handed weopen which im hoping would be hammer.
So with hammer it be awesome to see some sort of teleport flip slam like skill, a ground target gap closer ?
Or even a hammer throw teleport where you throw the hammer and if it hits target you teleport to then ? For a gap closer.
or a aoe skill where you throw the hammer in the sky and small hammers rain down abit like ranger lb skill I can’t remember the name of it lol

If trends are anything to go by, we should be given either a MH melee weapon with epic level AoE plus CC on every skill, including every AA, or a two hander that amounts to the same thing. Every melee skill will be instant cast, and have 1200 range to boot. The elite will make gravity well look like a childs toy, and the utilities… well they’ll never replace portal and blink XD
Because.. expansions and stuff.

I don’t see a melee weapon working very well. Sword / Shield works well enough but it’s just not, “Mesmerish,” you know? Beside that, our survival in extended melee is questionable at best and our burst isn’t enough to do a quick assassination and bail.
I like dual pistols.
What Id really like for xpac, Wintersday or whatever is an effective phantasm or two. How about it ANET?.. After all It’s past my fourth birthday.

Honestly with the amount of projectile hate I wouldn’t say it’s a horrible idea, but it’s just a bit too much, but you’re right. They kind of overdid it, I’m a main Engi, and the amount they gave us is just more than a bit much.

Well astralaria is beautiful and that would certainly give me a reason to craft it. But not sure how I feel about axe as a weapon either… not really something we need.
Would rather have 2H trident, spear, or a ranged mainhand. Unless axe would have ranged autos.
The issue I’d have with MH Pistol is that it should be power/area/CC since we already got the other stuff covered. But it would heavily interact with Duelists Discipline. Really curious how ANet would deal with that.
Considering what we already got and actually need the only no-no for me would be a new OH weapon. My preference clearly lies with a two handed melee power weapon. And I’d really like to see it being a Bow rather than a Hammer or Rifle. Second in line got to be a melee condi MH or a support MH/2H.
Expecting new weapons is unreasonable. It would take a huge amount of work to just provide the respective skins. Which also makes underwater weapons becoming land born less likely since they stopped releasing new skins for them. Making Torch etc. a MH option is more likely. Although I hate the idea of small MHs and large OHs (e.g. Dagger + Sword).

If it isn’t gonna be a weopen it could be inter graded into our dps like reaper shroud or Druids astrial form , turn us into a illusion or a form like that where if we have 3 illusions out we can absorb them and turn us into a ghost form ? Oviously not the name lol but the idea sounds good. Gaining the power of the illusions idk just an idea I can imagine there being another form like that with the next expansion
Apart from Dual Pistols so I could have my Mesmer run around with Lyss and Illa, I would much rather prefer something that allows Mesmers to deal AoE Power(non-condition)-Damage, as that is, in my observations, the area where the class is currently lacking the most. A Main hand torch or focus would allow mesmers to shoehorn themselves into the spellweaver archetype, and those are a lot more versatile than any kind of magic that is bound to something that is used as a physical weapon.

Yes, this is a serious problem with a new melee-range weapon, even if I do think it’s likely we get one of those for the next Elite. Shield is almost essential now for making Mesmer work in melee range. And a new melee MH weapon would mean we don’t get access to Blurred Frenzy either.
So a hypothetical new melee MH weapon would have to be at least as defensive as those two weapons to be viable, unless the new Elite’s twist on our class mechanic provides enough defensive power by itself to allow our new MH weapon to do more offensive stuff. Which, if that happens… Well, I’d be tempted to call it overpowered, but DH exists, so maybe it isn’t.

Best defense is killing those mobs before they have a chance to hit you. I would much rather have a pure DPS weapon for our next elite spec, and have our defenses be moved back into our utility skills and knowing how/when to dodge. That’s not to mean that I don’t think we shouldn’t have any defensive utility on the next weapon, but it doesn’t need to be on the same level as sw/shield are right now as long as it can effectively kill mobs quickly.
What about warhorn ? Maybe warhorn could be a unique dps main hand Weapon.
Yeah skins are kittenty lol but a cool skill could call a haord of illusions to stamped and fade away for aoe damage haha
Making a good guess but we won’t see strictly off-hand weapons being opened up as main-hand weapons or water weapons being used on land.
The type of weapon is somewhat irrelevant as we have a melee weapon used as a ranged weapon.
I agree that we won’t see aquatic weapons being used as land weapons, but why do you think that we won’t see OH weapons come back as a MH weapon? It honestly makes a lot of sense, and isn’t unheard of (thief already has mainhand pistol, several classes have mainhand dagger etc…) Only two that are “nontraditional” are mainhand torch and mainhand focus, but I don’t see why that means we shouldn’t get them as mainhand at some point.
What I said was that you won’t see strict off hands as main hands. Which consists of focus, shield, torch, and warhorn.

I’d like to see a off hand that doesn’t make phantasms, and instead has attacks that shatter illusions and deals enough damage to actually justify using it over phantasms.

Reclassifying those weapons, every single character model would have to be updated, its more work for them for what really? No added benefit for them doing so, so we really won’t see them be updated. My opinion of course.
Seems like the same amount of work as adding, say, new ranged animations for hammer or new melee animations for staff, which already happened with the last round of elite specs.
