I am considering a mesmer… But due to playing guardian (where i feel i do no damage)
I would like to know… Which class is the most damaging and caster based one. Heard Necromancers had some nice damage but after trying them a bit i am not sure at all :/
Thanks for reading and stuff.

Your damage output on a Mesmer (or really, on any class) will depend a lot on the gear you select, and also on your play style and trait choices.

That said, you have a lot of options for doing lots of damage in a few different ways. You could go with a Shatter build, which would provide a lot of short-range burst damage, a Phantasm build, which would grant Illusions that deal high sustained damage, or a Condition build, which would focus on whittling down an opponent by applying burns, bleeds and confusion that would all ignore an opponent’s defense. From my understanding, those are the three main types of Mesmer Damage builds. (There’s other options for tank, control, and support builds too)

A shatter build would probably require the most practice to master, but all of them are viable and popular options.

Mesmers can do gppd damage, but won’t (generally) out damage a thief.

That said, once you level up and get good gear, a mesmer is a beast and can easily take down mobs solo.

Generally, mesmers are geared out in mostly beserker armor and ele’s are generally geared out in knights. This gives mesmers an obvious advantage in damage and an obvious disadvantage in defense. I’ve never seen an apples to apples comparison.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I run 20/15/30/0/5 on my Greatsword + Scepter/Focus Guardian and do really good damage, buuuut that wasn’t your question.

There are three cloth professions: Mesmer, Elementalist, Necromancer.

The Elementalist can have good damage, but they are so squishy that it’s very hard to justify not stacking defenses on them. Most Ele builds that actually work are basically bunkers.

Necromancers, again, can have very good damage, but they’re more about pressure than they are nuking things down. That said, power builds that use the mainhand dagger can have some serious burst potential. The spec’s skill floor can be somewhat high, however, as Necros don’t have access to the mobility or invulnerability mechanics that allow you to easily reset fights.

If you want to see big numbers with a reasonable build, though, the Mesmer is probably the go-to cloth profession. It has really good build-in active defenses and decent base health, so you can afford to go with a lot of berserker stats. They’re a bit weird in that their best direct-damage weapons are the sword (for melee fighting) and greatsword (for ranged), but there are a lot of viable specs they can run with them.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.
