Some interesting news
I’d like to see a return to class diversification. DotA is a great game because all the heroes in it are so different. While it seems like in GW2, all the classes have been hammered down to be superficially different, but only superficially. Give me a mesmer class that can do fun things with illusions, instead of just summoning DPS pets or bombs.
Also, and this is just a general thing: reduce cooldowns on skills across the board, for all classes. Cooldowns on everything are too kitten high.
Hi,
after the release of the extension, i was thinking about another specialisation of the mesmer. And which weapon could be .
I was thinking about the pistol on the primary hand.
The name would be ‘The Harasser’ and his goal is to taunt the enemy (note : if i remember well, mesmer haven’t taunt comp).
He gain 2 thing :
-1 type of illusion : Harasser.
It’s doesn’t in the shatter, and in fact, it’s a ‘perfect’ clone of yourself, and imitate you (competence, swap weapon, etc). You can only have 1 harasser competence. (It’s like a pet in fact)(But, the Harasser would make less dmg and can copy elite skill =) )
If he die, you got a malus ( all colddown, you got stunned, or other ‘funny’ effect)
there could be different type of Harasser when they summoned (some give you defense, offense, support, heal you when he is attacked, etc)
-A stackable condition (don’t really know how call it =) )
By default, it’s do nothing, but, when full charged(at 25stack for exemple) it’s stun/taunt the target (and apply other effect)
The F5 could be a taunt, and for each illusion the mesmer gain something (damage, armor etc) or something that bost your Harasser.
When i saw that spe copy little the competence of other class (chrono have well like the necro =) ), i think, if you could have a sort of permanent pet that doesn’t shatter when the target die , it could be nice =).
All I have wanted since year one is Dual Foci (Focuses?). Made one minstrel and started on a second. Progress on that stopped with the wardrobe changes, but still, Dual Foci please. :P

This – I still have the dream of dual wield Anomalies.
And regarding the elite spec – it would be nice to have a proper illusionist/control themed spec rather than a glorified dps (shatter) or support (alacrity bot). Something where you can toy with the enemies, really confusing them (not confusion condition…) and frustrating them.
Burst damage would have to be lowered a lot when choosing this spec but on the flipside there should be plenty of crowd control, denial, debuffing and general mischief.
If the next elite spec doesn’t give us main hand focus then I want off hand warhorn. And I want it to focus on mobility, CC, and personal damage (meaning most of our damage is from us, only a small part comes from our phantasms).
But unless the spec is way better than chrono I doubt most people will take it, because losing chrono would mean TW, Moa and MI go back to full CDs due to no more continuum shift.
The main thing I want out of the new elite apart from new interesting skills to use is higher dps and more importantly easier and quicker to access/setup/less clunky damage.
While I was a big fan of main hand pistol , I’m not actually too keen on the idea now for two reasons. First Scepter is actually decent as a both a power as well as condi weapon now, especially confusing images, as far as Mesmer weapons go, second based on how much better pretty much all Elite Spec weapons were compared to the core weapons (except for the abysmal Druid staff) while the pistol would be better then the scepter this is more of a reson to get a 2 hander weapon to get as many new skills as possible.
Another reason to go for 2 hander is based on the decision they made with HoT that 2 handers replace f skills while off hands just get a new one, of course they didn’t stick to this for every HoT elite spec so who knows. Anyway one of the main ideas I had for a replacement shatter is to remove the damage from Mind Wrack, as burst damage (even though it isn’t as good currently as a lot of other classes) is one of the reasons given for why we can’t have good DPS with a stacking buff that gives us a big damage boost per illusion shattered. Maybe even as high as 100% damage boost for a 3 illusion shatter depending on other traits and what the new weapon does. This could create a nice rotation for Mesmer where you cycle in phantasm attacks and shatters to do solid damage. Not really thought of what the others could be except maybe make Cry of Frustation a nice utility shatter with a lower cd other then just another shatter to activate our on shatter traits.
It will also need a 25%-33% movement trait or better access to swiftness.
As for which 2h weapon, I’ve said it before, Rifle or Hammer.
Rifle purely for looks and I’ve liked the idea since I found they were toying with the idea for Chrono. We do need a solid 1200 range dps weapon but with the other stuff the Elite spec ideally would provide and a buff to the weapon itself Greatsword should provide this. We could also use some strong 1200 range AoE as well though but a main hand focus might fit that more.
Hammer is the one I’m leaning more towards because a new melee weapon would provde the best chance at higher/easier to access damage. People might say its not very Mesmer like but the other options are Mace and dagger which aren’t Mesmer like either. I think with a good set of animations where the Mesmer uses magic to twirl the hammer around it would look good, be fun to use and fit in with the class. Ideally this weapon would provide good damage, utility and maneuverability through leaps/charges.
As for the new utlity type all I can relly think of off the top of my head is a lowish cd/more general purpose elite finally and for it not to be shouts because then the elite would be bard and that would be bad.
I also think base Mesmer should get some buffs/changes to make its dps better and more suited to PvE but we know thats not going to happen.
I’ve written way too much.
Well said ideas in this thread. Anet is trying so hard; they honestly have released some very good content with HoT and the patches since. I hope they can rebound and knock it out of the park for the second xpac.
And hoping for PvE mesmer/chronomancer to finally experience decent, if not good DPS options.

This would be my #1 wish, too.
I want classes which feel unique. Rangers being these heal-form people is awesome, now if Mesmers were like the NPC mesmers where you cannot actually kill them until the illusions are down but then they die in 1 hit (or something), that’d be cool.
Fun stuff. Diverse stuff.

Well I don’t agree with the CD but I do wan’t to see phantasm again. I loved the ability to pretend to be an illusion I didn’t shatter just to confuse my enemy but I can no longer have this fun anymore thanks to aoe and instant clone clearing. (We need clone death and permanent retaliation back to prevent this clone/phantasm killing fiasco. There should be consequence for not attacking us as I have stale mated with too many enemies on phantasm build just because they refuse to attack me and attack my illusions the whole time.)
I am not the least bit interested in buying any more garbage they sell until they learn to balance the crap they’ve already released.
~ There is no balance team. ~
I’d be happy if they (Anet) bit the bullet and made PvP and PvE fully independent for all combat actions, CDs, etc. so Mesmer class wouldn’t be the whipping boy in PvE because of PvP.
Maybe for the next expact they should buff our clones for a personal DPS matter. That would be interesting to see it happening with a short bow.
