We’ve been doing this guild-internally for quite some time now and we had our fun, so I thought why not share it with you guys. Buy-In was 5 gold last time we did this.
The image is a bit old, so if you have any suggestions for improvements/changes (token value etc.) just say so.

I’m not hosting a game here, so don’t starting placing your bets. Mesmer Skill Bar is coming up in a few weeks, so it’s a good time to maybe start a game with your friends.

If you have any questions, just ask. Or modify the rules to whatever you want.

For clarity:
Each object in the middle section is worth 10 points,
General bets on the left side are worth 1 point
General trait bets are worth 3 points,
General utility/weapon bets are worth 5 points.

Tokens are stackable and more than 1 solution can be right, especially on general bets (for instance if one weaponskill gets buffed, and another one on the same weapon gets nerfed – or if a single skill gets buffed, but also bugged) – however, you can’t hit multiple times with one token. If two GS skills get buffed and you placed your “BUFF” token on the general GS field, it’s only one hit.
Their value & multiplier can be adjusted based on the current state of the Mesmer balance.

A deadline for the bets has to be picked (usually the day we get the changelog or preview), as well as a seperate rating deadline for the gamemaster (usually a few days after the patch went live) to spot bugs, stealth nerfs/buffs etc.
Clarify with your players wether to ignore or allow hotfix patches if your rating deadline is after the patch day (I recommend ignoring them).

You can’t participate if you’re the gamemaster.
Or if you’re working at anet.

What happens when they say they fix something but it doesn’t get fixed? Does that count as a buff, a nerf, or what? I wouldn’t bring this up if it didn’t happen often for us.

Most of the time, patch notes are released at the same time as the patch hits, so it’s easy for the gamemaster to decide. Personally, I wouldn’t let it count as a bugfix then. However (and I think that’s what you meant), Skill Bar is different because it’s a preview and released probably weeks before the actual patch.

I’d suggest that you wait for the actual patch to determine what really happened. As you said, previews are often false, stealth buffs/nerfs happen and it usually takes a few days for the community to spot bugs.
It’s probably best to set the deadline for bets to the point when the patch notes (or the preview) goes live, and calculate the results based on what you know a few days after the actual patch. Hotfixes should be ignored, but it’s up to the gamemaster how to choose the rating deadline.

Relevant for the actual score are the facts known and proven after the patch went live!

Or you could just finish the round when Skill Bar goes live, and take those notes as they are given to us. Wouldn’t make much sense though, cause they probably won’t show new bugs in their video (maybe just disable the “new bug” token in your game then) :P

Well, if absolutely nothing changed, then the bets are worth nothing.
If they somehow fixed the current bug but also introduced a new one, you’d probably allow “BUGFIX” and “NEW BUG” tokens.

But as I said, that’s up to the gamemaster. I’m just telling you how we would handle it
